The Role:
This position will provide analytical support to the unconventional projects portfolio focused on surface infrastructure activities. Provide analysis and understanding of surface infrastructure business portfolios & pursue alignment across the businesses specifically oriented at maximizing standardization benefits, increasing production, accelerating delivery and reducing costs. Benchmarking and external focus will be critical.

Business imperative “ The On-Shore Unconventional Business has seen rapid growth, mainly in North America, but now anticipates acceleration into other parts of the world, for example China, Ukraine and Argentina. For the past few years, business strategy has been based on growth and expansion, appropriate for creating an advantaged position in the area of unconventional oil and gas. However, given Clients success in establishing a solid position in North America, our strategy now is to focus on the long-term value of the business while enabling rapid growth globally. As part of this strategy, equipment standardization, lower capital foot prints and equipment lives to match production life now become critical to ensure competitive cost structure, rapid and safer production ramp up, and increased staff productivity.

For the surface infrastructure aspects of the global unoconventionals business:
- Update and maintain appropriate Unconventionals Project Portfolio evaluation tools
- Identify opportunities and provide detailed assessment of potential enablers/blockers in delivery of the Projects Portfolio.
- Develop key metrics for portfolio analysis and comparison of analogue project performance delivery.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of database of current benchmark activities and results, and pushes additional benchmarking opportunities forward from global
- Maintains integrated schedule of all Unconventionals Theme Office workstream activities and tracks progress of activities against agreed milestones
- Tracks and updated performance metrics (KPI's) for Unconventionals Theme Office PMO impact to business as well as operation; monitors and recommends change in
strategy/activities/plans if goals not delivered
- Development of Appropriate performance reports for sharing with key stakeholders on periodic basis
- Development and Update of risk register of threats to Unconventional Theme Office delivery
- Ensure concept consistency with detailed engineering work done by catalogue theme office team.
- Experience of the unconventional mindset, commercial, finance or modelling background would be highly valued.

Special Challenges:
Challenges of the business include:
- Rapid spend and activity growth potential, across wide geographic spread
- Difficult economics, requiring lowest possible cost of surface infrastructure while maintaining integrity.
- Significant NTR challenges, many of which are impacted by the surface infrastructure
- Use of non-standard equipment that may have been appropriate for aggressive expansion, but now needs to be changed to equipment that delivers long-term value, while meeting
Clients design specifications and commercial purchasing program requirements.
- Global delivery of standard equipment components will require good portfolio demand forecasts
- Necessity of building production facilities while exploration de-risking is still in progress. This necessitates choices between building temporary facilities or permanent facilities and
making choices about moving, retrofitting, or deconstructing after the de-risking work is complete. This is an atypical business model for Shell requires developing new and creative

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Degree in discipline engineering (bachelors of science).
- Ideally a Concept Engineer or Production Engineering Background
- Economics or commercial experience will be valued.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience within the oil and gas industry including experience in front end engineering, concept select, design, procurement, construction and operations.
- Previous experience in design and operation of unconventional production facilities is valued.
- Previous experience in developing and executing excel based modeling
- A can do attitude with clear ability to manage uncertainties.
- Exploration or Appraisal experience is valued
