The Company:
Our client is the worlds leading independent company in powertrain development. Based in the UK, our client has proven success in the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines. Our client is a highly competent partner to the engine and automotive industry.

The Role:
The chosen candidate will be responsible to analyse and optimise fluid system within an engine. Responsible as well of 1D simulations and interpretation of CAE analysis.

Your Responsibilities:
• Establish component and/or system characteristics, attributes and requirements
• Cascade, define & communicate targets to suppliers (internal and external)
• Manage energy-transfer & packaging interfaces with neighbouring components and/or systems
• Support in creation of quality documentation, including review of quality history, boundary diagram, P-diagram, robustness check list, interface matrix, DFMEA, and design verification plan (DVP)
• Develop component tests for specific applications
• Review test results and present conclusions/recommendations
• Support delivery of program within boundaries of responsibilities
• Manage own workload to ensure program milestones are met on-time
• Support design reviews and management reviews
• Occasional travel to global suppliers may be required
• Customer facing
• Build 1D models for Hydraulic/ hydro-mechanical engine sub-systems
• Create test plans to collect necessary information for building and co-relating 1D models
• Interpret CAE results to arrive at valid conclusions and understand the limitations of CAE
• Interpret supplier test data for components and convert these into information necessary to carry out accurate analysis within 1D model
• Support sales activities within the organisation

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above.
• Good base engine knowledge
• Demonstrable powertrain project experience
• Previous experience in building 1D model for Hydraulic/ hydro-mechanical engine sub-systems in AMEsim and Flowmaster.
• Ability to analyse test data results and assess impact on design.
• Experience in handling a varied work load within tight time constraints.
• Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
• Highly motivated and a team player
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Microsoft office tools

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Understanding of how hydraulically actuated engine components like VCT's, HLA's, DF-HLA's, DRFF's, PCJ's work.
• Good understanding of how engine lubrication sub-system and associated components work
• Programming skills in C,C++ or VB.
• Awareness of robustness engineering
• Awareness of FMEA and problem solving tools and techniques
• Knowledge of design for manufacture (manufacturing processes selection, material selection and process control technologies), machining techniques and technologies and tolerance design
