The Company:
Our Client is a large Automotive and Commercial Vehicle OEM, with a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering on a contract basis. These opportunities are typically based in their research and development facility located in Dunton which is the largest automotive technical centre in the United Kingdom.

The Role:
An experienced Mechanical Engineer with extensive CAE experience is required to work within the Global Clutch team. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the development and of all current and future FORD vehicle Driveline Torsional models with DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel), Clutch and associated clutch hydraulic release systems with manual transmissions.

Position Responsibilities:
• Assist FORD Product development teams in the integration of the clutch, DMF and hydraulic release systems into vehicle application, to meet specific vehicle level function and attribute requirements (brand specific DNA, SDS, Global Design Standards) with responsibility for the determining feasibility of systems to meet in particular vehicle NVH targets.
• Support engineers with their upfront CAE investigations: In particular with tolerance studies for torsional isolation performance, engine cranking (Start-up and switch-off) performance. Working within the D&R team, with program engineers and suppliers to ensure best-in-class design solutions are implemented into FORD vehicles.
• Preparation of Simulation reports
• Work with other Ford functional CAE activities / functional areas to identify common best practice system integration solutions. Ensure System Design Specifications / requirements are met.
• Manage CAE interface with suppliers / internal departments to ensure the component data incorporated is managed correctly through each phase of development across multiple programmes.
• Develop of in house CAE Tools including generating a Dual Mass Flywheel / Clutch damper model archive for global usage in Manual Transmission driveline programs.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Excellent powertrain engineering knowledge required, especially clutch systems, transmissions, engines and drivelines.
Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink.
Capable of working at a high level of proficiency without high levels of supervision. Self-motivated with excellent team skills
Good communications skills to enable efficient liaison with component supply base, vehicle and engine teams are essential
Awareness of vehicle and powertrain attribute requirements (e.g. NVH, Performance, etc.).
Solid understanding of Microsoft Office
Previous experience in Driveline torsional simulation with a sound knowledge of vibration theory and modal analysis
Degree qualified Mechanical or Automotive engineer

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Knowledge of other simulation software Dymola, AMESim, Simulation-X preferred but not essential.
Additional knowledge in heat transfer and tribology would be beneficial
