Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.
The role will involve getting involved closely with `hands on engine (and possibly vehicle) testing at a number of test sites in the UK & around the world. At these sites vehicles and engines are subjected to a number of different test regimes specific selected to assess the robustness of the Powertrain, Testing will predominantly be UK based in the midlands, with some work in Norfolk and possible opportunities to travel overseas in support of testing in Italy, Germany, UAE and Sweden and potentially China / USA. Whilst being responsible for the planning & monitoring of tests, a key requirement is the ability to fault find & resolve complex system issues & effectively manage & communicate findings to the system owners within the engines team as well as the wider engineering community by becoming a competent participant in the issue management system. The role will involve working closely with project and test engineers, within the team and within service providers as well as closely with management. The role demands a good knowledge of Automotive systems & technology & a strong electrical, calibration and diagnostic capability. A professional and quality driven approach is essential. It is essential that the individual be; hard-working, effective, experienced, highly computer literate, highly comfortable with data-analysis - able to adapt to different systems and strategies. flexible working, requiring travel, varied work hours including overtime, professional and interested in being challenged in a high-performance, high-pressure environment.
3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED:
1)- High levels of personal organisation to ability to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent tasks and projects independently and lead others through a complex working environment.
2)- Experience in producing executive summaries and leading problem solving and failure investigations, using some of: Ford Global 8D, DMAIC, Toyota problem solving, 5 why method, Ishikawa diagrams etc.
3)- Analytical and Data driven approach to problem solving - quickly adapting to new data formats, software, component systems on various engine types to confirm proper engine operation - including diagnostic, electrical and advanced modern calibration appreciation
Experience Required: - Strong working knowledge of modern Internal Combustion engine components and systems - inclusive of calibration & diagnostics - Experience within engine product development, calibration design, manufacturing or service environment. - Demonstrate skills in test & development, with experience of combustion, performance, economy, durability of engines and/or in-vehicle testing - Must hold full & valid driving licence for UK use and be able to demonstrate driving skills that meet the company standard to enable use of company vehicles. - Leadership experience; leading small teams, task-forces / project, investigations and commercial partnerships to maximise performance in people and equipment - 5+ years significant relevant experience, and/or high quality engineering or business degree - Previous experience of problem solving, quality and/or business tools (Global 8D, Ishikawa, Toyota problem solving, TBEM, Six-sigma, DMAIC, PRINCE etc)..
Experience Preferred: - Preferably degree qualified but not essential - if other, relevant engineering qualifications are held. - Experience working with diagnostic troubleshooting / warranty analysis / Calibration highly desirable - Service / dealer / supplier or relevant experience would also be desirable. - Experience of working with external engineering consultancies/service providers and/or suppliers in both the UK and abroad would be advantageous. - Advanced driver training would be useful - OEM / Tier 1 driving permits or IAM advanced motoring skills or equivalent
Additional Information : "- German or Chinese Language skills would be advantageous. - Must have flexibility and willingness to travel. Working between sites and external test facilities is essential, predominantly around the UK, possibly on a limited scale in Europe and worldwide. - Having own transport (Car/Van/Bike) preferred. - Flexibility and willingness to work flexible hours, including but not limited to extended weekly working hours, double day shift, night shift and weekend work where required.
