The Company:
Biotechnology company that support the refining industry requires a research engineer. This company is well funded by a well recognized Oil and Gas producer.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
Reporting to senior process development staff in the area, the research associate is responsible for overseeing all aspects of research project implementation and for properly executing the day-to-day research activities required to attain the project objectives in a timely fashion. The incumbent will collaborate and coordinate with members of an established project team consisting of scientists and engineers to develop and carry out the work plan pertaining to the project. The work requires both mental and physical abilities to carry out responsibilities in an office and laboratory environment and potentially in an industrial production facility during final validation of the technology.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Collaborate with supervisor and other project team members to formulate the project’s work plan
• Conduct literature search on relevant topics and suggest possible approaches and analytical techniques
• Design and develop experimental protocols required to attain project objectives
• Develop methods to characterize stream composition
• Operate and maintain onsite equipment and experimental set-up, including required instrumentation
• Perform routine quantitative analyses on various process samples using a variety of analytical instruments and laboratory assays
• Prepare and submit samples to external labs for analysis, and review reported results
• Ensure that collection of data, samples, and other monitored parameters are done according to established protocols and in a timely fashion
• Analyze, synthesize and interpret collected information using scientific or statistical techniques
• Prepare draft of interim and final reports, present data and results to other project members

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Qualifications
• Minimum of a B.Sc in chemistry preferably with at least 2 years of work experience focusing on either physical or analytical chemistry
• Familiarity with chemical engineering principles or knowledge of applied industrial chemistry required
• Familiarity with chemical process development and project planning desirable
• Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and conduct projects
• Familiarity with standard laboratory chemistry techniques, including instrumental methods of analysis
• Strong mathematical and statistical skills are an asset
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software required

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Routine travel is not anticipated as part of this role, but one brief trip may be required to conduct an equipment field trial
