The Company:
Our Client’s engineering division, has been a leader in the design of drilling facilities for offshore platforms worldwide for over 30 years. The company’s 700-strong workforce provides a range of engineering services from pre-project and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through detail design, construction support, hook-up and commissioning.

The Role:
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Chief Discipline Engineer is responsible for assuring the technical integrity of the output from the discipline in all areas of the Company’s activities worldwide and for the provision of discipline engineering staff, resources and technology in a manner which promotes excellence of performance both for the individuals concerned and the Company.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Technical Authority
Be the Focal Point within the discipline for technical knowledge, co-ordinating and disseminating technical advances within the discipline and experience from projects.
Be the point of contact with Professional Institutions and Industry Organizations.
Be the discipline focal point for the ATEX directive and other standards governing electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
Chair and promote the activities of the drilling Control Systems Expert Group.

Technical Assurance
Ensure the competence of discipline personnel.
Establish and maintain discipline procedures, control systems and guidelines to comply with the Company Safety Management System and Legislation worldwide
Review and disseminate changes in legislation, standards and codes of practice worldwide.
Conduct discipline Technical Audits for projects and contracts.
Ensure the technical integrity of all project deliverables.

Resource Management
Select, recruit and assign personnel as required to meet the fluctuating demands of internal and external projects.
Manage the development and training of discipline personnel.
Promote graduate recruitment and training through the Company’s IET accredited Graduate Training Scheme.

Key personal attributes required:
• Ability to work on own initiative but also be an effective team player.
• Effective communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work in a truly international environment with frequent international travel required (offices currently in the UK, Norway, Azerbaijan, USA and Canada).
• Must be prepared to travel to offshore installations.
