The Role:
The primary role is to provide direction to the Engineering Design Contractors civil / structural design, address any issues to ensure effective design of the civils scope; provide assurance that standards and specifications are being incorporated into the design; work closely with the Engineering Assurance Team to ensure the civil design is delivered in compliance with relevant ETPs; Project Specifications, MPcp and Group Standards. Interface with the Operations, onsite and Leatherhead based Construction teams and other discipline teams, where appropriate, to ensure an acceptable and coherent civils / structural scope is delivered.

The responsibility for work includes reviewing the current scope and proposals to ensure alignment with local practices, performance monitoring of Contractors Civil discipline team, ensuring quality delivery, highlighting and proposing solutions to potential issues well in advance to prevent schedule impact, supporting Onshore Engineering Team Lead in conflict resolution for this discipline. The role requires extensive Civil / Structural design and installation experience, deep understanding of civil design standards, collaboration with contractor engineering teams and experience to ensure overall engineering integrity and compliance.

Specific responsibilities during the DEFINE & EXECUTE Stages include:
•Onshore Civil Engineering Lead will demonstrate a strong commitment to HSSE Leadership, and will be a role model in HSSE values and behaviors;
•Working closely with the Onshore Engineering Team Leader to successfully deliver onshore Civils scope through the Define and Execute phases;
•The Lead Civil Engineer is expected to have extensive experience of all Civil design / construction techniques typically adopted in Hydrocarbon Process Plant including, but not limited to, seismic design, piling, slab foundation, soil erosion and remediation, soil bearing loads and civil / structural interfaces;
•Responsible for liaising with the Civil engineering design contractor, relevant consultants, construction installation and inspection contractors and vendors to achieve acceptable design standards;
•Responsible for ensuring that client & company HSE standards are uniformly applied to all activities within your control;
•Provide Civil engineering support to the Projects staff as well as the Commercial, construction Teams to resolve Civil / structural Engineering related issues that arise in the design works;
•Providing regular and specific feedback to the Engineering Team Leader regarding contractor progress and of any current issues requiring ETL intervention.
•Take ownership of Civil / structural engineering queries raised by Contractor / Operations to ensure resolution to the satisfaction of the Engineering Team Leader;
•Ensure that all civil / structural design changes are highlighted and captured using the Project Management Of Change procedure;
•Liaise with other Company / Contractor discipline leads, as necessary, in the execution of the Civil design works;
•Coordinate and support personnel involved in Civil / structural Engineering activities, ensuring effective solutions are implemented and tested, and that technical and user documentation is appropriately updated;
•Assist with the skills development of Trainee Engineers, where applicable, through practical training and coaching;

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Technical Degree or HND Qualified Engineer or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
•A Chartered Civil engineer with minimum of seven years of practical industry experience.
•Highly self-driven and motivated, investigative, attentive to details, eager to resolve issues, quickly address and resolve conflict, improve processes and effect change;
•Thorough and reliable work habits while operating to high standards;
•Ability to work within pressured environments whilst remaining focused and decisive. This will at times mean handling a variety of different types of work and being able to prioritise;
•Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative with limited supervision to achieve all objectives;
•Ability to take instruction, where provided, and to deliver challenging engineering results even if deemed to be in conflict with personal design standards / experience;
•Good communication skills with the ability to deliver key messages on technical, strategic and commercial issues;
