The Role:
Position Purpose
As part of the Projects & Technology (P&T) civil, structures and offshore engineering team (CSO) in Rijswijk, you will deliver competitive services and projects for our customers mainly within the EMEA region. You will contribute to performance improvements within Shell such as R&D, standardization of designs, simplification of processes and internal and external knowledge sharing.

The CSO team in Rijswijk comprises more than 45 civil, structural and offshore engineers covering all civil and structural aspects relating to our oil and gas projects; the civil team covers all civil aspects including site master planning, concrete structures, steel structures, site preparation, jetties, buoy moorings, breakwaters, dredging, reclamation and sea water intakes and outfalls, insulation, passive fire proofing and refrigerated storage tanks. The team members are mostly expected to develop competences in a wide range of the above subject matter areas, although the team also includes some deeper specialists, including geotechnical engineers, offloading systems specialists and specialist in advanced structural analysis.

You will carry out and coordinate civil and structural engineering activities for the purpose of concept evaluation, concept definition (FEED), detailed design, construction and asset integrity. You will support customers with technical advice, best Shell and Industry practices and competitive global standards to enable top quartile operating performance.

Principal Accountabilities
1. Enable P&T to deliver onshore development projects by executing project activities, including conceptual, FEED Design and detailed Design, Construction and Installation.
2. Perform Quality Assurance and Control reviews to ensure the technical integrity, constructability, functionality and reliability of the design product.
3. Provide input to the development of project execution contracting strategies that complement designs, construction and operating methods.
4. Manage outsourced work to Engineering Consultants and Contractors.
5. Provide CSO Engineering technical input to P&T business development groups in the Identification, Assessment & Selection of new business opportunities, sustaining the group as the recognised entry point for such service.
6. Identify new technology to overcome new business challenges; working with IRD to formulate project proposals, defining scope of work and participating in development of technical solutions.
7. Contribute to the update of Standards, Tools and Guidelines within own area of expertise.

The Civil & Structural Engineer will report to the Civil (Onshore) Team Lead and work primarily within the regional P&ES project and customer portfolio. You will work with Senior Civil & Structural Engineers and with more junior engineers in the team. You will support and manage studies and design activities work outsourced to contractors.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience and Qualifications required

Qualifications: As a minimum BSc or equivalent in civil and/or structural engineering, with a higher-level degree or professional qualification preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years experience in civil engineering, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry including international work.

Experience of working within the opportunity realisation process and effective collaboration in multi-discipline teams is required. Experience of working in and/or supporting operating assets including brownfield development and civil maintenance and integrity work will be an advantage.

Professional and technical competences should include the following based upon the civil & structural job competency profile:

A minimum of Skill in all of the following:
• Onshore geotechnics and foundations
• Civil infrastructure (site master planning, site preparation and/or earth works, drainage, roads and paving)
• Steel and concrete structures
• Buildings
• Coastal marine structures (jetty docks and coastal structures including site selection and layout development, navigation, dredging, mooring studies, breakwaters, sea water intakes and outfalls)
Knowledge in one or more of the following would be an advantage:
• Civil maintenance and integrity (inspection, assessment and repair/rejuvenation of civil assets and passive fire protection systems)
• Advanced structural analysis (fatigue, seismic dynamics, reliability etc)
• Refrigerated storage tanks
