The Role:

Job Purpose:

A key functional role in the Ghana Business Unit Commercial team, with specific responsibility for gas commercial operations and long term gas strategy. The role is responsible for the commercial operation of the first Jubilee Gas Sales Agreement, and any subsequent gas sales agreements.

This role will work on a wide range of the commercial aspects of the Ghana assets, including: developing business and commercial strategies, maintaining the Ghana strategic risk register, and supporting contract negotiations (such as gas sales agreements and funding arrangements).

Responsibilities / Key Objectives:

Responsible for the commercial operation of the first Jubilee Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) which includes: ensuring all forecasts and notices are issued in accordance with the GSA; receiving and checking nominations from the buyer; liaising with production control to determine whether nominations can be met; providing information to the buyer concerning daily deliveries; management of gas under deliveries and mitigation of shortfall; and management of any claims for Force Majeure.

The role is also responsible for the daily and monthly reconciliation of volumes under the GSA, and for communicating changes to both the buyer and sellers within the partnership.

Develop a gas strategy and drive implementation of the strategy; keep abreast of developments across the gas value chain in Ghana and the immediate region (Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Benin), including government, infrastructure, power sector and competitor activities; ensure those developments are incorporated into the gas strategy and communicated within the company.

Participate in commercial negotiations, growing in responsibility over time as skills develop.

Develop a working knowledge of the clients economic modelling practices, and support team economists as necessary.

Develop and maintain the Ghana Business Unit risk register.

The Commercial Advisor will be coached and trained with a view to being considered for future promotion within the Ghana team. Where training is required, the individual will be given opportunities to enable them to progress their career further.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Education & Experience:

Degree in Engineering, Science or numerate degree ideally also with business/commercial studies (e.g. MBA).
5+ years experience in the upstream oil/gas sector with demonstrable economics, commercial and overall business capability.

Skills:
Strong upstream background with an international E&P company
Excellent communications skills and well versed experience in dealing with diverse cultures
Self starter with track record of creating value by entrepreneurial thinking
Ability to structure, understand and implement contracts
Good understanding of, and experience across, the E&P lifecycle, especially appraisal to production
In depth knowledge of upstream economic value drivers and analysis
