The Company:
Our Client is an International Company involved in the supply of Energy globally. Their Operations cover Exploration, Production and Downstream and at present they have projects in over 25 Countries worldwide.
In Australia they are involved in one of the Country's largest LNG Projects, including both Gas and Condensate which is currently in Execution Stage.

The Role:
Our client is currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager Greenhouse Gas. The Commercial Manager GHG is accountable for developing and implementing the optimum commercial strategy to meet Australia's greenhouse gas obligations under NT and federal legislation. The strategy will consider a wide range of activities, from government permit auctions and forward permit purchase contracts to national and international offset agreements and internal abatement options. The strategy must recognize the unusual characteristics of many GHG contracts and manage the associated risks and uncertainties. The total value of GHG contracts could be up to several billion dollars. A commercial exposure of this magnitude must be managed to the highest commercial standards to achieve maximum value at minimum risk. The Commercial Manager GHG is also responsible for delivery of sound economic evaluations, coordination of the annual GHG budget cycle, cost monitoring, the interface with the legal and finance functions and analysis of national and global carbon market trends in support of the overarching GHG strategy.
The Commercial Manager is also responsible for current biosequestration projects, including the Biosequestration Assessment Project and the Fire Management projects.
The Commercial Manager GHG is part of the GHG Leadership Team, which is tasked with definition and implementation of the overarching company GHG strategy. He/she will also contribute to the global GHG strategy, developed by the Tokyo head office.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

The following Qualifications and Experience are a requirement of this position:
• Develop strategies for successful negotiation of a portfolio of GHG contracts, in line with the overarching Greenhouse Gas strategy for the project.
• Ensure senior management is aware of the strategy, risks and opportunities associated with these agreements and briefed adequately to make investment decisions.
• Perform generic analysis on issues that impact or inform the GHG strategy and translate this in clear messages and suggestions for change of strategy.
• As part of the GHG Leadership Team, shape the GHG strategy.
• Coordinate the annual budget cycle for GHG activities and monitor expenditure against budget
• Ensure business cases for key investment decisions are underpinned by robust economic analysis.
• Define the GHG commercial objectives and key decision points and create, in close cooperation with relevant departments, a work plan that aligns with the project plans, meets the defined objectives and enables timely project decisions to be taken. Track progress against plans and take corrective action as required.
• Provide input into GHG work plans and schedules and ensure commercial timelines are accurately represented.
• Develop and implement an assurance framework that ensures commercial strategies and contracts are independently verified and that key decisions are robust.
• Contribute to the GHG risk and opportunity management process that drives work and resource planning and defines priorities
• Build and maintain a dedicated team of capable and experienced resources. Nurture a culture of high-performance, empowerment, accountability and trust through clarity of purpose and objectives, cooperation and integrated working practices.
• Develop excellent relationships with other resources and departments that deliver services to the GHG effort and ensure mutual expectations are well defined and managed.
• Ensure contracts with third party providers have a clear performance management process incorporated, such that performance can be accurately measured and corrective action taken when required.
• Manage the relationships with the Tokyo head office and Joint Venture participants to ensure that they are fully aligned with the commercial strategies strategy and work plans and that key milestones and decisions are accomplished in line with the schedule.
• Ensure the GHG stakeholder management plan recognizes and manages the impact that the GHG commercial agreements may have on stakeholders.
• Keep abreast of latest developments in the area of GHG management through a network of external industry contacts, public information, networks and conferences. Ensure that latest insights are incorporated to achieve a best-in-class outcome.
• Employ the services of appropriate external resources to supplement in-house expertise.
• Conduct all activities in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the company's policies and procedures.
• Ensuring the welfare of personnel and the protection of assets and the environment at all times.
• Demonstration of leadership in the area of Health and Safety and actively promote the development and implementation of a Safety culture.
Maintain awareness of relevant HSE standards and ensure these are included and monitored in third party agreements.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
• 15+ years experience in the oil & gas industry
• Experience in commercial management of significant oil & gas opportunities or projects.
• Preferably experience in GHG related projects
