The Role:
This job specification details the requirements for the role of Commercial Technician, reporting directly to the Commercial Co-ordinator.

To work with Operations and Performance colleagues to ensure that optimisation and associated commercial opportunities are maximised.
To contribute to and support the development and compliance of all relevant commercial policies, procedures and strategies.
To manage gas portfolios for gas customers.

Collection of all necessary information to ensure that all contractual obligations are met and that all notifications are submitted on a timely basis
Monitoring plant production requirements against demand utilising the latest PC spreadsheet models and advising operations on necessary adjustments.
Working closely with the Energy Management Team and customers, continually monitoring live data and making recommendations in order to meet customer and plant requirements.
Ensure necessary and effective communications (including data flows) are maintained with all parties
Maintain procedures and update continually, ensuring that they remain relevant and user friendly.
Monitor the UK gas market with a view to participating in trading on the market following strict codes of practice
To be recognised as a specialist in this area by remaining up to date with industry knowledge, legislation, trends, key organisations and best practice.
As required, undertakes ad hoc projects, including secondments to other sites, specialist projects and presentations to designated internal and external customers.
To act as a principal point of contact on designated specialist matters, providing high quality professional advice on relevant issues.
To positively represent the Commercial Technician and Commercial Operations section, the work and services it provides to both internal and external personnel.
To develop and maintain effective and supportive working relationships with other members of the EMT Department.
Process Client nominations and liaise with both Operations and Excelerate Personnel in order to meet required nominations.
Use up to date spreadsheets to analyse Clients offload data and provide product nominations to external customers.
Using web based systems actively participate in the UK gas market on behalf of customers, ensuring positions are balanced, nominations are made and all queries investigated and resolved within designated timelines.

Continually stay up to date with changes in the UK gas market, customer instructions and plant capability.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
GCSE English & Maths – Grade C and above
A level Maths /equivalent numerical competence.
Relevant experience & contribution in a busy, commercial & customer-focused environment.
Proven capability and confidence to apply complex calculations and numerical applications.

Intermediate level in application & use of Microsoft Office & data management systems.
Committed to self-development. Undertakes appropriate activities & uses at work.
Current industry, legislation & best practice.
Works positively. Ongoing enthusiasm & drive to succeed, meeting business & personal goals.
Prepares & presents information clearly & effectively via a variety of methods. Confident verbal communicator with all, providing customer service & required results.
Team contributor, positive about developing & maintaining standards & customer relationships.
Calm, composed & objective in challenging situations. Controls own stress. Adapts to changing work demands & conditions, maintaining stamina

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Degree qualified or studying for in a related subject - Finance, Business Studies, Economics etc.
Experience gained in a 24/7 operational plant.
Policy & best practice research, development and implementation.
Commercial awareness of UK energy markets, organisations, legislation and regulations.
