The Role:
To ensure that independent, timely, fit-for-purpose compliance/management systems support (including metrics, audit, standards and procedures) is delivered as required to the UK Asset.


• Provide independent compliance/safety management system advice and support, to ensure that the UK business remains compliant with relevant UK safety regulations and MOC (Corporate) Standards and expectations;
• Act as the UK Focal Point and technical expert for the implementation of the company Global Performance System (GPS), the HES&S Management System;
• Provide liaison with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in response to technical questions (e.g. from inspections, audits), to ensure regulatory requirements are satisfied and any adverse impact on operations is minimised;
• Provide UK representation in engagement with the Corporate and Upstream organisations on the review of new and revised Standards;
• Manage the communication and close-out of GPS and all other audit actions, including production of summary metric reports for senior management;
• Manage/coordinate updates/revisions to UK policies and procedures.
• Work with the Verification Coordinator to promote development and implementation of the GPS management system, including facilitation of GPS assessments for UK;
• Maintain awareness of relevant new / emerging regulations and participate in any consultation processes, to ensure Company is well positioned to manage any impact;
• Where appropriate, engage and manage external consultants / contractors to carry out specialist studies, to ensure delivery of commitments in all relevant areas;
• Provide advocacy in relation to safety management system enhancements to promote continuous improvement as demanded by GPS;


The Compliance Team provides advice and support to a range of “customers” across the UK business on a variety of timescales. Day-to-day support is provided onshore, in particular to Delivery and Facilities Engineering, and offshore to Platform Managers and their reports. Short- to medium-term support may take the form of responses to technical compliance queries, data analysis, etc. The job holder is required to support the HES Group to ensure the principal accountabilities are achieved and expectations of “customers” are met.


The Compliance Coordinator will make technical recommendations on their own authority in a range of contexts, including procedures, action tracking and data analysis. Where the impact is significant in financial, regulatory or reputation terms, these decisions will be expressed as recommendations to the job holder’s Supervisor and/or other relevant stakeholders.
Such decisions will often be supported by specialist advice from other HES team members.


To support the available technical expertise and resources to ensure that timely, fit-for-purpose advice and support is delivered to all stakeholders across the UK business. The challenge is to achieve this whilst balancing the often competing demands of the different stakeholders, in the context of a fast-moving operational environment and the need to achieve regulatory compliance and continuous safety improvement.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The Job Holder requires a full and comprehensive understanding of risk management principles in an oil industry context. This includes knowledge of relevant standards, practices and regulations, particularly as they apply within the UK. Particular areas of focus are: Verification schemes, RIDDOR, the Safety Case Regulations, PFEER, DCR, PSR and audit experience. In addition, some knowledge of the US OSHA Regulations is preferred.
The Job Holder should have a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role in the oil industry, together with well-developed analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
