The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
This position is for a role within the Engine Pumps Team (water pumps, oil pumps and vacuum pumps) which is part of the Base Engine Department within Powertrain. The Team has complete responsibility for the design and development of all Jaguar and Land Rover engine based pumps and supporting components from concept design through to volume production. A role within the Engine Pumps Team involves working with a wide range of electromechanical, hydraulic and mechanical components, challenging functional and cost targets and significant liaison with all internal areas of our business as well as external component and system suppliers. The pumps team utilise CAE tools and extensive rig testing as well as engine dyno and whole vehicle testing to validate the components and system. This small team is based in Building 17 at Whitely, but provides engineering expertise across all Product Development and Production sites.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, pro-active, demonstrates initiative, with ability to work with minimum supervision. Broad knowledge of engineering and production techniques and processes. Able to demonstrate experience of managing suppliers. Excellent communication skills. Good Presentation skills. PC literate, especially MS office. Proven ability as a team member. Ability to process and analyse data.
An understanding of JLR Powertrain systems, components, practices and the processes involved with system design/development and good working knowledge of JLR IT systems an advantage, but not essential. An understanding of Powertrain component development from concept to production essential. This includes design reviews, FMEAs, supporting the APQP process, releasing designs / drawings, managing the Bill Of Materials for the components, running supplier review meetings, project management of the supplier, ensuring components support prototype and pre-production builds, running the DV Plan for the components, ensuring your component is validated, reviewing and assessing your components after test, working with the purchasing team ensuring VFM, supplier visits, support iPSW and PSW events. Working with other engine departments to ensure seamless integration, working with manufacturing and assembly teams to validate the process of the component from point of manufacture to completed vehicle. Current Driving Licence.
A degree or equivalent is preferred. Ideally in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Responsible for the delivery of Water Pump Assemblies, Combined Oil and Vacuum pump assemblies and individual pump assemblies for all JLR programmes. Responsible for the durability testing. Liaise with Base Engine and Program teams to agree system targets (quality, function, cost, weight) and define system content. Work with Purchase, Suppliers and CAD team to manage delivery of the pump assemblies on time, to agreed targets are within budget (Piece, Tooling and D&D). Lead the quality planning activities including component FMEA and Design Rules and Standards. Ensure compliance with all Quality and APQP requirements. Manage the resolution of technical issues through the AIMs system (concerns system). Support System Strategy and project target conflicts to resolution. Lead the Validation Plan and ensure it meets appropriate programme gateways and monitor progress against the plan. Develop and manage Component Timing Plans to ensure programme milestones are met. Support for the various builds throughout the delivery of the programme. Lead the release activities required to support component maturation up to inc PACN approval. Work with advanced engineering team ensuring future programmes select the correct technology that can be robustly delivered into a programme, work with other engine areas to ensure the pump design integrate effectively with the other engine components. Ensure designs are approved by vehicle system teams and the manufacturing / assembly plants.
