The Company:
Our major Oil & Gas Client is in need of 6 Concept Engineers (Brazil Deepwater, Onshore Gas/LTO, Onshore Gas Plant, Heavy Oil, Heavy/Unconventional Oil and LNG) in Houston, Texas.

The Role:
1. Brazil Deepwater
Identify and evaluate development concepts for a deepwater opportunity
Broad experience offshore developments; experience in FPSO/subsea developments preferred; International experience preferred
9/2011 – 2013
Houston with business travel to Brazil (10 – 15%)

2. Onshore Gas/LTO (multiple positions available)
Identify and evaluate development concepts for onshore North America opportunities
Experience in onshore developments; experience in fit-for-purpose / low cost solutions is a plus
9/2011 – 2012
Houston with domestic business travel (5 – 10%)

3. Onshore Gas Plant
Identify and evaluate development concepts for gas processing plants to support onshore North America opportunities
Experience in onshore developments; experience in midstream projects is a plus; commercial experience is a plus
9/2011 – 2012
Houston with domestic business travel (5 – 10%)

4. Heavy Oil
Identify and evaluate development concepts for heavy oil projects in Canada
Experience in onshore developments; experience in cold climate and thermal (steam) projects is highly desired

5. Heavy / Unconventional Oil
Identify and evaluate development concepts for unconventional heavy oil project in Canada
Experience in onshore developments; experience in cold climate and heavy oil projects is highly desired

Evaluate LNG opportunities based on standardized development concepts in North America

Position Description
• The Front End Engineering team Upstream Development Americas (UDA) provides concept and process engineering support to Upstream Americas and Upstream International for front end engineering projects (Pre-DG3) and studies.
• Projects in UDA can originate from New Business Developments, Exploration prospects, and field/asset performance optimization. In UDA, specific themes are deep water, tight gas, CSS and EOR.
• The Concept Engineering (CE) position provides surface facilities design, project management and coordination support to the front end study teams. The work requires the Concept Engineer to play key roles in Integrated Work Teams (i.e. surface/subsurface, upstream/downstream) that may develop to leadership of such teams over time. Seamless transition to the post DG3 delivery teams is essential.
• The key purpose of the CE position is to coordinate identify and select optimal facility concepts and project execution strategies/plans for complex and high Capex projects. The information supports informed decision-making as to whether if and how a project should be matured to the next phase.
• Key deliverables include various scope-defining documents as agreed in the project/opportunity assurance plan, as well as cost, schedule and risks for the concepts.

• The CE is accountable for development of the optimum surface development concept for the opportunity.
• The CE will identify, develop and assess the surface development options and enable informed decisions for selection of technical scope for the opportunity, and provide input to the opportunity economics (cost and schedule) and execution strategy.
• While leading or executing the CE activities, the CE must identify and coordinate all surface discipline skills and deliverables required, including those of discipline engineering, project services, operations readiness, HSSE and project engineering, making use of distributed resources (in the business units/and in other P&T organizations) and liaising with stakeholders.
• The CE must integrate the surface development concepts with subsurface development concepts (including wells), to ensure consistency of assumptions and delivery of the optimized, overall development concept.
• The CE is also accountable for “urban planning”, integrated project scheduling, risk management, initial contract management strategy, OR&A, etc., in accordance with the Opportunity Realization Process (ORP) and Discipline Control and Assurance Framework (DCAF).
• The CE will prepare for a smooth transition to the Project Manager and project delivery team at DG3. This includes, as required, providing support to the Project Delivery Manager, supporting contract strategy development, managing and executing specialist studies with external consultants/contractors, and identifying the benefit of procurement and fabrication of long lead items.
• The CE will identify non-subsurface technology gaps and develop plans to address the gaps.
• The CE will ensure all Client HSSE, engineering and other standards can be achieved in all phases.

Business Impact
• Lead concept/facility engineering support for projects typically exceeding 500 mlnUS$ with complex integrated projects of multi bln US$ Capex, unlocking reserves and supporting production business plans.
• Achieve seamless project execution through integration and collaboration with Pre-DG3 Project leader and Post-DG3 Project Manager

• The CE does not have direct staff accountabilities.
• The CE will lead Project teams, typically 4 - 6 engineers with further support from Contractors and other P&T or business unit staff.

• The CE has no direct budget, but is responsible for defining and executing studies and/or consultancy services typically ranging from 30K - 3 MM USD OPEX.

Stakeholder Interactions:
• The CE will regularly interface with Project Leaders, Subsurface Engineers, other P&T staff, contractors, and business unit staff.
Special Challenges
• A strong sense of team-based values is essential, working closely with the subsurface, commercial and project execution teams.
• Prioritizing a demanding and varied work load as well as integration in the overall hydrocarbon value chain.
• Operating across a wide spectrum of geographical and cultural environments with diverse Operating Units.
• To be proactive in the identification of value-creation ideas and compliance with the ORP.
• To demonstrate the technical integrity of engineering projects.
• Some time may be spent away from the home office, working directly with Operating Units and ventures throughout North and South America (based on assigned projects).

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience and Qualifications Required
• 15+ years experience in engineering in the upstream oil and gas industry with broad experience in onshore and/or offshore projects.
• Skill in concept engineering for the upstream and front end engineering with a proven track record of leading engineering teams and running front end studies.
• Background in various aspects of EP project execution - FEED, design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning and start-up is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills/ ability to work within and lead a multi-disciplined/multi-cultural team.
• Clear communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to deal with multiple, often conflicting, goals and priorities while staying focused on delivery.
• Background should be discipline engineering (Subsea, Process, Facility, ...) or project engineering and should be relevant to UDA opportunities and projects.
• Competence in using IT applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
