The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their ongoing oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The Construction Mechanical Lead is responsible for verification of all mechanical engineering and design on the Project. Oversees the FEED contractor's production of the required Project Design Basis mechanical deliverables within project budget and schedule. Ensures that the Project's requirements, as detailed in the Early Project Development Basis and Facilities Design Basis, for all mechanical items are met. Assists with all aspects of mechanical engineering for the Project, whenever called upon by the Facilities Lead. Facilitates interfaces among the Facilities Lead, EMDC Functions, and the FEED contractor's organization with respect to mechanical/construction issues.

Responsibilities and duties:
• Provide overall mechanical engineering technical leadership and expertise
• Coordinate EMDC Facilities engineering team members' involvement in mechanical activities, including interaction with FEED contractor's mechanical personnel
• Prepare and submit Mechanical engineering and design monthly progress data, including narratives, charts, graphs, etc. to the Facilities Lead
• Provide FEED input in Hazardous Operations (HAZOPS) reviews
• Provide FEED input in Risk Management activities, as appropriate

• Advise the FEED contractor's mechanical engineering and design effort with respect to:
 Equipment data sheet completeness and accuracy
 Mechanical engineering studies and analyses
 Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) reviews with emphasis on equipment safety and operability
 Inspection and test plans, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Integration Tests (SITs)
 Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project
• Steward the FEED contractor's mechanical engineering and design activities including:
 Mechanical engineering and design required to develop the Project Design Basis/other Gate 3 deliverables
 Recommended deliverables and labor hour estimate for mechanical work
 Measurement and reporting of engineering progress
 Providing appropriate technical specifications to be used for mechanical equipment
 Review of drawings and other deliverables as required for inter-discipline design coordination
 Review of vendor data for completeness as required for mechanical design and compliance with project specifications
 Assistance in developing procurement plans for mechanical equipment
 Development of field installation plans and procedures for equipment
 Transportation and transportation fatigue analyses as required
 Contribution to weight control reports for all mechanical equipment
 Verifying and coordinating short and long term equipment preservation requirements, including developing a sign-off sheet for required inspections

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Thorough knowledge of:
 Mechanical and engineering design principles and manufacturing processes
 Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices
• Experience in factory performance and acceptance testing
• Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of mechanical design analyses hardware and software
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 15+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 10+ years of which should be at the Senior Mechanical Engineer level
• 5+ years as a Project Engineer or Lead Mechanical Engineer for a large project
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc.
