The Role:
The Construction Safety Advisor is responsible for providing cultural and technical safety leadership, and supports the field execution phase of the Project in the oversight, monitoring, and reporting of all HSSE aspect related to the project.

The position of the Safety Advisor is part of a team of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) Professionals who lead the client towards the company goals of world-class safety culture and performance. In addition, the individual conducts inspections, investigates incidents, conducts hazard assessments, continuously conducts contractor surveillance, and assists in the health and safety training of the workforce. This job description is intended to provide an overview of the position and does not include all the tasks that might be required to provide support for the job requirements.

The position will support activities through pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up.

Responsibilities/Duties:
• Consults/Coaches client and Contractor workforce concerning safety procedures/programs, hazard identification, and promotional activities to stimulate a positive site-wide health and safety culture
• Actively participates in assigned leadership teams by performing audits, identifying gaps, creating gap closure plans, and implementing solutions in harmony with client Management
• Serves as single point of contact for various areas, or departments related to health and safety issues.
• Conducts health, safety and compliance audits, inspections and assists with incident investigations
• Works within the HSSE Team to develop and implement site wide safety plans and initiatives for continuous improvement of site safety culture and HSSE performance
• Develops and conducts safety training programs for the workforce as requested
• Conducts or assists with risk assessments
• Acts as subject matter expert for assigned safety topics, programs, policies or procedures


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
• In-depth knowledge of environmental & safety requirements, industrial safety practice
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Health, Safety or a related discipline
• 5 years of experience in a Petrochemical/manufacturing setting with training in emergency response
• Experience/training in emergency response
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations
• E.M.T. and/or ASP/CSP certification is a plus
• Self-starter with proven leadership abilities, strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities
• Team player with ability to influence and manage a team to get positive results
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Able to present issues, concerns and provide recommendations and solutions to management
• Good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio)

Physical Requirements:
• This position is assigned to a field office and will require working outdoors, resulting in exposure to extremes of heat, cold, noise and dust. Also, will be exposed to normal construction equipment and site hazards. Be able to spend majority of time out in the field, access to confined spaces and elevated work locations, work night shift and weekend as necessary

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Education
• Minimum of a High School Diploma plus 5 years of Health and Safety experience

Experience
• Require a minimum of 5 years experience in the health and safety field.
