The Role:

• Maintain awareness of, and promote, the client and Project Goals in respect of HSSE, QA, Schedules and Technical Integrity, including participation in regular audit activities.
• All persons working within a client operational boundary are empowered to stop work that they consider to be unsafe. ‘Unsafe’ in this context means there is potential to harm persons, or the environment, or client ’s reputation or to cause loss of business value.
• To attend any associated HAZID’s / Task Risk Assessments (TRA’s), start-up meetings and Readiness Reviews, as required.
• To have a detailed technical knowledge of Instrumentation Technology as applied to the Oil and Gas industry with surveying applications.
• To have a detailed knowledge of clients ’s ‘Golden Rules’ and to ensure promotion and utilisation of them at all possible opportunities.
• Ensuring that the delivery & quality of survey activities is accordance with the Scope of Work, clients Technical Specifications and relevant Project Procedures.
• Interfacing and liaising with Contractor’s representatives and the ship’s captain and crew to ensure optimum vessel and survey equipment utilization.
• Have proven experience working as an instrument technician and comprehensive knowledge of their associated surveying applications and to be able to supervise QC activity.
• Ensure that survey activities are conducted efficiently, minimising vessel transit and set-up times and survey equipment calibration operations.
• Liaison with the Offshore Representatives of other vessels and facilities in the working area and, where necessary, help or contribute to the organisation of a SIMOPS strategy and schedule.
• Liaison with Installation OIM’s in event of any requirements to work within 500m zones.
• Verify contractor’s daily reports, and any other statements of work completed, as used to support the contractors invoices.
• Attending daily onboard progress meetings with the contractor, including relevant HSSE meetings, TRA’s and Toolbox Talks as required to be aware of all shipboard survey activity.
• Compile QC Report on the performance of the Contractor in all survey & operational aspects
• Compile HSSE statistics from offshore operations as required by client.
• Promoting awareness, understanding and achievement of client ’s goals and expectations including the championing of clients HSSE expectations.
• Promoting continuous improvement and compilation of ‘Lessons Learned’.
• Familiarisation of relevant contract documentation, survey procedures, risk assessments, task lists and requirements, contractor equipment and personnel capabilities, local Field geography and metocean conditions etc as required.
• Supervision and QA/QC of the contractor’s survey operations in confirmation that all positioning hardware and software is calibrated and operated according to good survey practice and the contract, and offsets, calibration results and datum conversions are used appropriately.
• Ensure that any Contractor hardware and software equipment problems or failures are recorded accurately and provide appropriate advice to the onshore clients Surveyor regarding operational status. As problems arise, careful notes should be taken in order to support the clients Onshore Surveyor in any contractual issues.
• Monitor the contractor’s production of survey data and reporting and ensure that delivery meets with the project schedule / requirements.
• Compile a concise log of survey operations and issue daily and/or weekly summary progress reports as directed.
• As requested by the Onshore clients Surveyor review survey scopes of work being prepared for inclusion within survey & construction contracts.
• Review and contribute constructive analysis of survey procedures written by contractors.
• Review survey procedures from contractors to ensure compliance with clients Tech Specs.
• Carry out in depth analysis & checking of survey field reports & charts as necessary.
• Promote good housekeeping of all survey field data & reports onboard by the contractor.
• Have a good working knowledge of GIS systems and digital data storage systems.
• To continuously strive to improve efficiency using new and innovative technology

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience/ Qualifications
Required: An academic qualification as a Certified Instrument Technician or Surveying/Geomatics
Required: To have extensive experience as an offshore Party Chief or Project Surveyor with a minimum of 10 year’s Offshore Oil & Gas industry experience and preferably some in the Caspian Sea Area.
Also required is a minimum of three years’ experience working as a Client Representative on hydrographic surveys and/or charting surveys linked to construction work. A thorough understanding of the principles and practical application of Hydrographic Survey and Acoustic Metrology and associated Instrument Technology and their applications is required.
Broad oil industry experience as an Offshore Survey Representative, and an understanding of the project management issues associated with large projects. A knowledge of industry standard HSSE procedures is essential.
