Subsidiary of major energy company, operating offshore gas fields and onshore gas processing terminals.

The Role:
Job Title: Contracts Engineer
Location: Heysham, Lancashire, UK
Job Summary/Purpose

To ensure that cost-effective and high performing contracts, agreements and category strategies are delivered to assigned teams/departments.

To ensure that the Client is not exposed to unnecessary contractual and/or commercial and/or insurance risk in the course of its business.

Ensure that suitable goods and services are available to support the Client ongoing activities.

Job Outline & Challenges

Provides advice and guidance to assigned teams/departments on all contractual issues and reports on cost and variation matters.
Provides support in developing contracting strategies and tender plans for assigned teams/departments and/or specialist contracts and supports the delivery of contract performance targets.
Develops contractual awareness within assigned teams/departments and ensures a clear financial understanding in terms of contract costs, accruals, etc.
Leads the tendering, evaluation and negotiation process in relation to the award of contracts and agreements and makes recommendations to management, ensuring strict compliance with supply chain rules, procedures and industry codes of conduct.
Contributes to or leads dispute negotiations.
Drafts contracts and agreements, processes amendments and variations and ensures internal approvals are obtained.
Leads quarterly reviews, FPAL assessments and performance reviews and identifies improvement plans for under-performing contracts. Present category strategies, contract strategies, new contracts for approval and contract extensions at a monthly contract approval board chaired by the Regional Director.
Ensures contractors/suppliers are managed in an integrated manner in order to achieve one team spirit and no boundaries. Identifies opportunities to develop and promote positive relationship management with contractors and suppliers, leading to partnerships which focus on creating sustainable value.
Promotes continuous improvement and high performance in all aspects of contracts management.
Maintains an up to date knowledge of technology, industry supply chain initiatives and market trends/pricing. Takes ownership for the continuous development of personal and technical expertise and knowledge.
Ensures commercial and contractual risk is considered in all technical documentation and that the company is not exposed to undue contractual risk.
Undertakes visits to offshore installations/vessels, project sites and contractor bases/worksites.
Ensure that appropriate Operational or Construction All Risks Insurances are placed as part of the Company’s risk mitigation strategy.
The job holder is expected to take ownership for the continuous development of personal and technical expertise and knowledge.
The job holder is expected to be flexible and undertake additional duties commensurate with the overall responsibilities of the job, and that are within their competence, when required.
Mentoring and supporting other Contracts Engineers within the team

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree or equivalent in e.g. law, business, quantity surveying
Member of relevant professional organisation e.g. CIPS
Engineering and Facilities Management category and contracting experience.
Strong experience in the preparation, negotiation, drafting and management of field development contracts within the Upstream oil and gas industry
Strong commercial awareness and up-to-date knowledge of industry/regulatory contracting practices
Strong interpersonal, communication and personal skills
Good knowledge of MS office and Procurement Packages
