The Company:
Our client are a major operator within Oil and Gas.

The Role:
Key Accountabilities:

The engineers will be required to deliver specialist technical support and assurance for integrated control and safety system (ICSS) hardware and software systems. The assets to be considered will include onshore facilities and offshore facilities such as topsides, hull or subsea systems. The individual will therefore be expected to work across the wide field of instruments & protective systems engineering. I&PS engineers are expected to be knowledgeable of applicable industry standards and practices and have experience of I&PS specifications, design, installation and operations (including proof testing and maintenance) at oil and gas processing facilities An important part of the role will be the ability to assist the client with liaising coaching, training and mentoring of local staff.

The work includes:

• Providing I&PS and C&A discipline technical support to the various client asset Operations and Maintenance teams
• As part of the project team developing specific asset solutions to ensure project conformance.
• Assisting to increase overall project competency on a wide range of assets, and to assist with ensuring that personnel operating and maintaining equipment are competent to do so.
• Assisting with Control HAZOP studies.
• Assisting with Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) Studies.
• Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) design, installation and verification, in particular control loops and alarms used as Independent Layers of Protection (IPLs)
• Participate in process hazard analysis, and design reviews and risk/reliability assessments.
• Field instrumentation, Foundation Fieldbus and fire and gas system specification and evaluation.
• Producing recommendations for equipment operation, maintenance and proof testing improvements.
• Development of internal instrument and control Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs).
• Providing technical guidance on application of codes, standards, project design criteria and ETPs.
• Providing input to support service contracts for implementing project activity contracts as appropriate.
• Identifying requirements for improved plant procedures and processes and assisting with managing the scoping and implementation of modifications.
• With other team discipline engineers and Operations and Maintenance Teams assist with project conformance work plans, to ensure that work is appropriately incorporated into the maintenance strategies of control and alarm systems and equipment.
• Interfacing with the various asset Operations Teams to ensure project experiences and lessons learned are appropriately incorporated into the maintenance strategies of instrument and control systems and equipment.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Extensive experience with control and alarm systems, to include control loop performance monitoring, alarm rationalisation, alarm response manuals and human machine interfaces
• Knowledge of process hazards analysis techniques such as HAZOP/LOPA.
• Good working knowledge of industry and government standards such as IEC, EEMUA and/or ISA, NEC, API requirements for facilities.
• A proven track record in engineering and maintenance of oil industry equipment and systems.
• Hands on experience on one or more of major modern DCSs.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer and/or Chartered Engineer.
• Project and/or operations experience as a senior control/instrument engineer.
• Experience of project design, construction, commissioning and operations
• Knowledge of alarm rationalisation studies.
• Experience with operator training simulators.
• Experience with process control (including tuning) and advanced control.
• Knowledge of data historians and data security.
• Expertise with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
