The Company:
Our client is a leading global Oil and Gas operating company.

The Role:
Primarily responsible for tracking the costs, analyzing trends, and forecasting for Company Infrastructure.

The Wells Project Cost Analyst supports the Wells team with financial matters related to project (AFE) support which forms a significant portion on the ongoing business activity and spend within the Alaska Wells Division. The position is based in Anchorage and will work closely with the Anchorage Drilling Engineers and Team Leads as well as the Well Site Leaders on the North Slope.

The Project Cost Analyst will solicit input from a broad range of Wells staff and interrogate financial systems in order to assist in establishment of good project cost estimates at the start of a new project (AFE) and will then help to ensure that the business transactions and results of the reporting entity are recorded, reported, and forecasted with integrity, transparency, and in a timely manner adhering to the Group accounting policies and control standards.

Interrogation and investigation may lead to preparation of project cost estimate tools, actual booked cost reports and analysis, and Journal Vouchers or transfer requests in order to maintain integrity of the financial data. This position will also assist in preparation of timely project/AFE revisions when revised estimates of the project cost look to exceed the previously authorized expenditures. This position will interact continuously with both the Finance Control/Accounting department (for gaining access and understanding of actual booked costs) as well as the Procurement (PSCM) department (for gaining understanding of contract terms and revising cost estimates).

This position leads and supports Wells in understanding project financial issues. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Daily interaction with wells team leads at the various facilities is a requirement of the position.

Key accountabilities:
1. Assist with preparation of project (AFE) cost estimates by developing and maintaining cost estimation tools for the Drilling Engineers.
2. Track, analyze and assist in understanding booked costs by project, in particular when project spend looks to be exceeding the authorized AFE value.
3. Champion project cost management improvements through process, procedures or tools
4. Advise Wells Management in financial issues to optimize business results related to project spend.
5. Assist with variance analysis for project spend and forecasts to enable better understanding of booked vs. estimated costs.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

- Strong analytical, financial or cost control, reporting and accounting skills
- Good understanding of how Finance processes and systems operate, including key internal and third party provider interfaces
- Understanding of system controls, financial controls, and risk assessment, and ability to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity
- A proven track record of demonstrating: natural leadership, strong people and communication skill
- Ability to influence others using networking and teamwork skills
- Ability to make a significant contribution to wells management team while offering sound independent advice on financial matters.
- Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of timely delivery
- At least 3-5 years experience in a cost management type role (Business Analyst, Cost Engineer, Cost Control), preferably with experience with change or new ways of conducting business
