The Role:
Position Description

The role of the MCP Cost Controls Analyst is to assist the Cost Controls team with the implementation of processes to control many projects with a total budget of $1billion. The Cost Controls Analyst will work with various managers, engineers, and technical staff of the client under the general direction of the Cost Controller. Visits to the client’s field locations may be required.

Specific duties will include:

• Cost Tracking – Compile project expenditures, budgets, variances, contract commitments, financial forecasts, etc., at different levels, validate data
• Variance Analysis – identify problem-areas driving cost variances to budget, create detail analysis by drilling-down to the activities driving the variance and summarize in 80/20 format
• Progress/Performance reporting – Generate project performance reports & graphs
• Data Manipulation/Integration – Work with large volumes of data, extract data from several sources, load into data warehouse and download for project analysis. Data must be reconciled to ensure accuracy and a clean audit trail for auditing purposes
• Other – help with ad-hoc requests as necessary.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Required / Desired Skills, Experience and Education

Minimum 4 years’ experience reflecting responsibility for financial / accounting reporting (strong track record of data reconciliation / validation from different sources, accounting accruals, variance analysis, etc.)
Oil industry experience not required

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Required computer skills:
• MS Excel 2007: Advanced skills required to build intricate spreadsheets to enable fast data manipulation of large data imports/exports from/to other systems. Must know advanced formula manipulation (lookup, reference, IF, logical, nested, text, etc) pivot tables, auditing/tracing, conditional formatting, graphs & charts. We rely heavily on usage of macros. Emphasis on accuracy.
• MS Access: Intermediate: Viewing/updating/filtering tables, Open/run queries
• Database Management: Intermediate: maintenance, data uploading and reporting. Internal data repositories include Kildrummy and MS Access.
• Other: 10-key by touch required
Desired system experience:
• Enterprise system for Financial reporting (for example, SAP)
• Cost Management system for Project management (for example, Kildrummy or Cognos)
• Supply management/Accounts Payable system (for example, ARIBA)

Educational background in Accounting, Information Systems or related field
