The Company:
Is a leading Automotive manufacturer and is currently experiencing an upturn in production with demand increasing globally.

The Role:
Evaluate product and investment costs for current and future product development plans.
Proactively work towards achievement of cost target objectives with Purchase and Engineering functions.

Reporting to Senior Cost Engineer – Purchase/Unit Cost within Finance-Engineering, Investment & Unit Cost working within product technical groups with Product Engineers, Buyers and Manufacturing Engineers.

Develop product cost targets at system, feature and part level that support financial objectives.
Support Purchase in the development of tooling cost targets.
In conjunction with Engineering and Purchase, establish optimum costs that support project targets.
Prepare cost status through Modular SET process including risks and opportunities, reporting on a monthly basis.
Support design process in providing cost evaluation of alternative proposals, including PKO activities.
Support the supplier nomination process and final price negotiations with Purchase function.
Coordinate and assure the achievement of the agreed priorities with the Senior Cost Engineer.

Establish component target costs for specific features maintaining overall top down targets.
Recommend cost targets for PDB changes, AEKO changes and supplier nominations, for approval by relevant company process.
Authority to approve LSC/AEKO as finance up to a 1Euro unit cost and 10,000 Euros Expenditure.
Modular responsibility across multiple projects.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Technical and commercial training through apprenticeship (or equivalent).
Educated to HND level in engineering/manufacturing techniques.
Significant experience in cost estimating techniques, preferably within the automotive industry.
Knowledge and application of VE and VA techniques.
Evaluation of supplier quotations and involvement in negotiations with suppliers.
Financial awareness in management accounting and financial reporting.
Minimum 7 years experience in Cost Engineering.
