The Role:
To provide support to the project manager in all aspects of cost, sales and commitment. And the forecasting/outturn of the project.

The Cost Engineer is an integral part of the Project team, in conjunction with the Planning Engineer they are the eyes and ears of the Project Manager. They are accountable for reporting all financial elements of the project at a detail level, with the ability to roll up as required. In addition to this the key role of the Cost Engineer is in looking forward to assess the Anticipated Final Cost (AFC) of the project and advise the Project Manager of issues before they occur.

Monitoring and reporting actual cost to date on a weekly/monthly basis at a detailed level for:
- Internal man hours and comparison to plan
- Subcontracts and comparison to plan
- Travel and Subsistence and comparison to plan
- Risk and comparison to planned

- Monitor and Control of commitments and accruals in conjunction with PM/SO
- Monitor and Control current control estimate
- Prepare detailed cost reports each period.
- Prepare detailed forecasts as required (generally on a quarterly basis)
- Monitor and Control of change
- Support the Project Manager in the production and analysis of cost/sale performance.
- Support the Project Manger to assess the outturn costs
- Accurate and timely information provision
- Cost efficiency
- Customer satisfaction achievement of individual targets.
- Compliance with project office processes.
- Accurate use of finance system to support the project office requirements including production of invoices, production of cost reports, production of forecasts and estimate to complete costs, receipting of invoices and creation of commitment documents.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Candidates should be IT literate and should be proficient in Word and Excel. Knowledge of estimating,
- Applicants should have a HNC, NVQ or degree in engineering, project management or quantity surveying, or equivalent work experience.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Chartered Engineer status and Membership of the Association of Cost Engineers is desirable.
- Planning principles, risk analysis software and estimating database construction would be an advantage.
