Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:
Scope
This role is principally responsible for evaluating product and investment costs for current and future product development plans at as system / part level. To work proactively towards achievement of cost target objectives with project teams, across product platforms in conjunction with the Purchasing and Engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities
1. Target Setting
- Application of the target setting process to set material and investment targets at a system / part level to support all new vehicle programmes
- Establish component part target costs for Current Model Projects, including Permits, Engineering Changes and PKO actively
- To provide benchmark data and predecessor material cost information to all customers to support target setting, utilising best practice and Group expertise
- Work within the simultaneous engineering teams to balance targets at a system / part level and obtain appropriate buy-in

2. Evaluation and Control
- Support and challenge the design process in achieving cost targets, recommending cost effective solutions through the design review processes.
- Achieve formal agreed cost targets at nomination and at B release for all major systems / parts within an engineering discipline
- Support and actively influence both current and on-going cost reduction programmes by providing technical and costing information to support the FMK tandems
- Evaluate PDB change requests and engineering change requests, set cost targets for submission to the Module review process
- Evaluate supplier quotations (QAF's) and support the negotiation process with cross functional support to ensure all business objectives are met in terms of cost, quality, capacity and group requirements
- Support Modules / Engineering teams in terms of material and investment impact for studies relating to alternative design solutions and manufacturing methods to support project decision making
- Simultaneous engineering team responsibility across multiple projects and platforms

3. Cost Data Management
- Maintain component target and latest indicated costs for new products and current models in WEBFAKIS at a part level

4. Material Cost Reporting
- Prepare Target v Status reports identifying reasons for deviations from target and previous status at a system / part level
- Working with the Module / Engineering teams to identify risks and opportunities and actively drive the achievement of opportunities and mitigate the risks
- Prepare information and brief financial controller-product cost, in order to report at all required management reviews

5. Process Improvement
- Proactively support and implement improvements in personal, team and company processes
- Support and deliver improvements in productivity targets

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Experience in cost estimating techniques, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Knowledge and application of VE and VA techniques
- Evaluation of supplier quotations and involvement in negotiations with suppliers
- Financial awareness in management accounting and financial reporting

- Education to a degree standard.
- Technical and commercial training through apprenticeship (or equivalent)
- Educated to HND level in engineering / manufacturing techniques
- An Engineering / Manufacturing background would be beneficial

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Product Cost Management, estimating and process planning experience within a Production and engineering environment
- Purchasing, Procurement and knowledge of automotive cost estimating, engineering practices, including Kaizen, Poke-Yoke, Kanban, value analysis, value engineering and cost modelling techniques
- Whole vehicle component and system manufacturing process and materials knowledge
- Practical knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing techniques and industrial engineering skills
- Highly competent with the use of systems and software packages
