The Project Cost Engineer is required to undertake data gathering and analysis in order to effectively and efficiently assess and
report on all aspects of project costs and performance in order to support the Project Manager.
Experience as a project cost engineer demonstrating data collection, collation, checking and reporting
A problem solving approach to issues raised.
Ideally experience in producing reports from P6 schedules preferable
Fully conversant in all aspects of Earned Value Analysis and project cost controls
General understanding of project management principles and processes
Experience within the nuclear industry is preferable but not essential
Has experience of being an effective Cost Engineer working as part of a team
Improving project cost related processes across the programme or portfolio of work
Providing data analysis and cost data to actively support forward looking trend data and historical data to support the project as and when required
Comfortable with interfacing with all functional areas/personnel in order to gather, analyse and validate data as required.
Support change control and ensure that systematic approaches are rigorously applied.
Ownership, management and administration of the invoice substantiation process
Lead the review of forecasting data from Projects. Overview and advise.
Conversion of cost/forecasting data into usable management information on behalf of the Programme Manager
Management and application of resource rates at individual level
Support and oversight of the procurement team when valuing work undertaken in the supply chain
Interface with the Ansaldo NES Finance Team and ensure a coordinated approach is adopted between both areas
Support the preparation of estimates where required
Responsible for the provision and maintenance of a number of project cost monitors (e.g. PAM report).
Provide overview costs reports to the Programme Manager covering cumulative and in-period costs, highlighting key areas and variances.
Support to and development of project control procedures such as rules of credit, forecasting Earned Value etc.
Support to the Senior Cost Engineer/PCM when producing Client facing reports and attendance at meetings on behalf of the Programme Manager.
Support to IPT members where required to help understand project control concepts or particular exercises.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Essential experience, knowledge and skills:
3 years' experience in cost control of complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects within Nuclear, petrochemical, transport, aerospace or similar industries
Fully aware of the project lifecycle
General understanding of project cost management aspects, principles and processes
Sound IT skills, particularly project reporting and writing skills
Good spoken and written English is essential
Comfortable working within a team
MS Office Conversant
Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Desirable experience, knowledge and skills:
Working knowledge and experience of SAP/Oracle or similar major cost management systems
Experience with working with Primavera schedules (ideally P6)
Excellent time management skills
Strong relationship building skills
