The Company:
A well known and well respected organisation within the automotive manufacturing industry with an excellent reputation as an industry leader

The Role:
To determine the financial consequences of product innovation, quantifying the impact of decisions and investments of product cost.

Main Tasks:

- Determine the target cost price of components and systems during the development process
- Initiation of actions to meet the cost price targets
- Establish the related investment for specific tooling costs for in-house manufacture and at external suppliers
- Establish cost estimates of production processes and execute feasibility studies for alternative production methods
- Participate in multifunctional teams and support the decision making process by offering adequate cost information regarding process choices and assist in purchasing negotiations
- The role will work in close cooperation with Product Development, Purchasing, Product Planning and Production Engineering
- Cost estimation of piece part and tooling cost, comparison of estimates to supplier's quote using Quotation Analysis Forms (QAF)
- Leading/ partnering supplier negotiations with purchasing department
- Working together with engineers to challenge and ultimately improve the design of the product resulting in part and tool cost savings

Reporting Line
- The Cost Estimator will report to the Engineering Accountant

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Pressing and fabrication cost estimating experience is a necessity, including sand/ die casting, smc- injection moulding, roto moulding and machining
- Knowledge of different manufacturing process common in automotive and truck industry
- Six sigma trained
- Excellent IT skills
- Able to make reliable estimates of cost consequences based on limited technical information
- Automotive experience

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Education to degree level preferable in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or comparable
- Experience of using cost estimation software such as Schmale, Boothroyd and Dewhurst
