The Company:
An international Marine Survey & Classification company with extensive operations in West Africa.

The Role:
This position is responsible for the day-to-day activities within Cameroon as well as for maintenance of quality, content, consistency and continuity of all work performed, in accordance with established Client and Division policies, procedures and standards under the direction of the Regional Vice President.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Stays actively informed concerning business and management developments affecting present and potential customers of assigned region. Ensures that appropriate action is taken to capitalize on marketing opportunities as they present themselves.
2. Maintains constantly appraised regarding pertinent activities of competitors (i.e., changes in business strategies, technical capabilities, marketing tactics, organization and management) operating in the port jurisdiction, especially other major classification societies, and communicates intelligence to the Regional Vice President.
3. May liaise with National Class Societies in assigned region and administer dual class agreements. Recommends new agreements or changes to the Regional Vice President.
4. Assists in the development of short- and long-term manpower needs based on the projected business climate in order to ensure that qualified, trained staff are available as needs arise.
5. Ensures that staff are organized and staffed appropriately to carry out the business plan and budget, as approved, in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards.
6. Makes recommendations for hires, terminations, promotions and transfers. Appraises the performance and development potential of direct subordinates and recommends appropriate compensation adjustments.
7. Identifies training needs of the staff and sees that such needs are fulfilled within the framework of existing policies, procedures, plans and budgets.
8. ensures that all client Quality System requirements with regard to work within the region are fulfilled.
9. Keeps informed of the product and service capabilities of the Marine Business, identifies improvement and developmental needs, takes action to capitalize on prospective market opportunities, and makes recommendations for technology or technical tools and manpower skills necessary to implement new and improved products and services.
10. Monitors the delivery and quality of services to customers in terms of customer satisfaction.
11. Actively promotes the services and capabilities of the client Marine Business to customers and monitors the execution of similar activities by subordinates.
12. Monitors the utilization of the staff within assigned region on billable and essential non-billable work. Takes appropriate action to relieve workload imbalances and monitors over- or under-utilization of staff.
13. May serve as Account Manager to designated customers and potential customers and actively promotes the services and capabilities of client throughout the business community.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

1. Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in appropriate technical discipline is preferred; should have previous related marine industry experience and appropriate certification and/or licenses in area of specialization.
2 The knowledge and ability to communicate orally and in writing highly complex and unique technical issues to laymen and experts in related technical fields.
3 The management skills to organize, plan, and direct the work activities of other professional employees.
4 The human relations skills necessary to organize, direct and motivate senior level professionals and managers. These skills are also necessary to develop strong client relationships at the highest levels.
5 An entrepreneurial spirit that enables the incumbent to recognize and capitalize on new business opportunities.
6 Needs to be familiar with the client Quality & Environmental Management System and client Safety Manual.
7 Significant Experience within Africa, desirably in West Africa
8 Highly proficient in the English language.
