The Role:
Manual Transmission Design Engineer:
An experienced system design / core architecture engineer is required to work within the Manual Transmission group. The successful candidate will have responsibility for core architecture design and release in conjunction with a JV supplier.

Position Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction to externally purchased engineering services and transmission component suppliers.
Through the ownership of specific transmissions, provide core engineering direction to multiple vehicle programmes.
Ensure that all programme, commodity and design objectives are fulfilled and that all design changes are reviewed, approved, and documented.
Define requirements & targets with regard to quality, function, cost, timing, weight, and recyclability. Ensure all requirements are met.
Manage transmission system interfaces to ensure continued compatibility with other systems and overall system performance.
Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP). Ensure timely validation and sign-off for subsystem content - ensuring adequate specifications are defined and verification is conducted to prevent product nonconformity.
Support prototype build and support prototype sign-off. Manage product changes and containment during all build phases.
Evaluate and implement TVM proposals.
Work with multiple internal departments to ensure optimum design and integration of the subsystem components into the vehicle and to ensure manufacturing and service requirements are met.
Ensure the transmission complies with legal, safety, program, and design intent.
Maintaining Quality Tools/Records for the subsystem components.
Lead multi-functional teams to resolve production quality issues within formal a formal process structure.
Travel as required to support product related launches and liaise with suppliers

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Self-motivated with excellent team and leadership skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to deliver within programme constraints
Knowledge of manual transmission design, function and integration into automotive applications.
Knowledge of vehicle and powertrain attribute requirements (e.g. NVH, Performance, Economy, emissions, etc.)
Experience of supplier relationship management; design & development collaboration, validation and production
Degree (in Mechanical, Automotive Engineering or equivalent) required or completed two thirds of formal study towards a degree course and commitment to complete studies.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering project delivery.
Experience in leading multi-functional teams.
Prior sub system design and release experience and familiarity.
Experience in vehicle evaluation of Installed Powertrain attributes beneficial.
Familiar with Ford Product Development Processes (GPDS, FMEA, WERS, AIMS, eFDVS, etc)
