Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.
The applicant will be required to work with the Tier 1 Engineering supplier and client subject matter experts to tune the software parameters within the Stability Control System and Driveline Control Systems in such a way as to optimize the stability performance of the vehicle in all operating conditions as defined by the performance targets applicable to the specific vehicle project.
Subjectively and objectively assess vehicle stability performance in a repeatable, safe manner.
Use vehicle based instrumentation to gather on-vehicle data
Use software tools such as MM6, Canalyser, Canape, Matlab, Simulink and CarMaker to gather data on system performance
Use gathered data alongside subjective evaluation to identify parameter changes to drive the desired change in system and vehicle performance
Work with simulation tools to identify parameter changes
Work closely with the Tier 1 supplier based abroad to determine parameter changes
Work closely with ORC, Dynamics and other attribute teams to manage attribute trade-offs and meet vehicle targets
Liaise with Vehicle Engineering and Programme teams during the development process
Maintenance and updating of prototype development vehicles
Nb. This role is normally based at Warwickshire, although a considerable proportion of the test work will be carried out away from base - mainly in mainland Europe (Sweden, Germany, France & Spain), but occasionally further afield (such as Dubai and New Zealand) Travel expenses will be provided During test trips the working week will typically be 10 hour days - pay will be pro-rata for the hours worked
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
High level driving skills at and beyond the adhesion limit in a range of high and low mu test environments
Analysis of vehicle handling characteristics during a driving manoeuvre.
Understanding of vehicle dynamics
Appropriate knowledge of: control theory, electronics and electrical systems, modelling tools and techniques and vehicle networking
Knowledge of measurement and instrumentation systems (such as CANalyser, CANape, Matlab, Simulink)
PC literate (Excel), with good communication skills.
Systematic problem solving.
Must be able to work with people at all levels within client and interface with suppliers
Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Additional Skills Preferred Additional Experience preferred
'Stability Control System tuning for an OEM or Tier 1 supplier
Modelling and Simulation experience using Matlab, Simulink and CarMaker Education required
Degree in Automotive, Motorsport or Mechanical engineering
Software tuning of the Stability Control System - particularly Continental Teves or Bosch Gen 9
IPG CARMAKER software package Experience required
A proven track record in an automotive development or system application role.
A proven ability to assess vehicle dynamic behaviour
A proven ability to use CAN based tools and measurement analysis tools
