The Role:
Position: Development Planner
Location: Houston

Summary of Position:

A successful project meets business objectives safely, on time and within budget. Reporting to the Manager Early Appraise, the Development Planner works with project teams to implement the right project management techniques to develop and monitor project plans required to meet those objectives.

Development Planner is a shared resource among the C&A assets and plays a role in supporting project teams by integrating the work of different disciplines through processes and deliverables in these work areas:
• Activity Planning
• Performance Management
• Knowledge Management


Activity Planning
• Develops and maintains integrated resource loaded project schedules including all functional areas and main contractors, and if appropriate the production control system.
• Prepares look-aheads to ensure progress toward milestones and to understand root causes of deviations.
• Interfaces with the project teams to track potential schedule variances, raises them to management attention when needed and implements corrective actions.
• Coordinates preparation of schedule risk analysis.
• Coordinates the documentation of the Management of Change process, and ensures approved changes are correctly incorporated in the project schedule.

Performance Management
• Implements Value Navigator and other value processes aligned with Hess norms.
• Creates master templates and workflows which can be adapted to a specific asset.
• Coordinates and participates in the development of project business plans, including the project A3’s.
• Coordinates and participates in the weekly, monthly and other regular and ad hoc performance reports, both within the project team and to other parts of the organization.
• Interfaces with project disciplines to ensure that performance metrics are communicated in a clear and consistent way.

Knowledge Management
• Utilizes “lean” methodologies to drive out waste.
• Facilitates processes for data management and sharing.
• Supports team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices.
• May maintain the team SharePoint site, and other data and document repositories.
• Shows commitment to all aspects of EHS/SR; ddemonstrates appropriate safety behaviours and commitment to environmental policies.


• Well-developed understanding of planning, scheduling and production control techniques and tools applied in exploration and early development stages of oil & gas projects. Techniques include but are not limited to, the Critical Path Method, with the proper use of durations, scheduling relationships, lags, constraints, and logic to derive the critical path. Tools include MS Project, MS Project Server, Primavera and SPS Production Manager.
• Experience with implementing MS Project Server.
• Experience with creating reports within MS Project Server, specifically Manpower Planning.
• Well-developed understanding of cost control processes and knowledge of SAP to utilize it as a computerized accounting management system on an as needed basis.
• Capacity to maintain interconnection on all on-going projects from beginning to end by providing scheduling, cost control and project management expertise and feedback.


• Min. 5 years of relevant industry experience
• Self-motivated to learn and apply new technologies
• Perform effectively in a fast paced and multitasking environment
• Ability to mentor and coach others
• Experience with continuous improvement processes (Lean, A3, E3)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Business or Technical Undergraduate degree preferred
