Directional Specialist Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job
The key role is to provide technical and specialist advice on all aspects related to directional drilling and to act as focal point for Directional Drilling contracts. The position will however require a reasoned Drilling! Operations Engineer who can take on board Drilling Engineering projects and studies as and when required. To evaluate and implement new developments in the directional drilling area and utilize Landmark software to evaluate and optimize performance. This will cover all aspects of the well life cycle from planning through to implementation and review. Responsible for developing maintaining the anti-collision model and procedures. Ensures full compliance with Corporate and Departmental HSE policies and procedures. Assists as required to carry out detailed mechanical design of wells. Evaluates and recommends drilling, testing, completion, workover and rig equipment, techniques and technology. Highlights and recommends techniques, procedures and equipment to improve the safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness of current or proposed operations and projects. Assists with planning and optimization studies as required. Optimizes the use of the Drilling Information System.
Knowledge and Skills
• B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering or a related Engineering discipline, plus relevant drilling industry courses.
• Fluent in written and spoken English Language.

Experience
• Minimum 8 years drilling experience with considerable exposure to Directional Drilling.
• Innovative, with the ability to challenge conventional methods and capacity to drive through new initiatives.
• Strong analytical and commercial skills, able to identify opportunities and set priorities to achieve business results.

Principal Accountabilities
• Provide specialist technical input on all aspects of Directional Drilling.
• Provide troubleshooting and problem solving advice during drilling operations.
• Evaluate and recommend on implementation of new technology.
• Monitor and manage data on costs, technical and HSE performance.
• Ensures full compliance with Corporate and Departmental HSE policies and procedures.
