The Company:
A Large Operator

The Role:
This staff position is based in Houston and reports to the GOM or Project Team Leader. The engineer will be the point of accountability for leading all technical drilling engineering efforts in support of his/her assigned Wells Project(s). These functions include well planning, risk weighted cost estimating, casing design, mud system analysis, bit optimization, directional/BHA planning, equipment selection and ordering, preparing project schedules, and developing well operational programs and post analysis of operations. The successful candidate should have a proven track in drilling engineering with a clear focus on the value that effective well planning and engineering can deliver.

EHS:
Actively participate in the company's Safety program
Make regular visits to rig site/service company facilities as required for Pre Spud Meetings or Equipment Verifications
Ensure all applicable actions from Safety Alerts / Lessons Learnt are captured in Drilling Programs.

Technology:
Engage necessary support from EPT personnel to gain Technical Assurance on all critical aspects of well design (including mud, cement, and casing design)
Generate SWO’s as required and ensure cost commitment is monitored against approved sum.
Evaluate novel and conventional drilling technologies and adopt their use as appropriate.

Well Delivery Excellence:
Ensure WDX Stage Deliverables are completed and signed off at the end of each Phase (ref. WDX Road Map). Compile Data Support Package and present to Gate Keeper.
Organize required Peer Reviews at end of SELECT and DEFINE
Ensure well cost and time estimates are compiled meeting the guidelines of the company's Well Cost Forecasting standards, and supported with suitable benchmark data. Document in Well Cost Memo Drilling and Completion Uncertainty Statement.
Maintain Action Tracker / Risk Register throughout project. Ensure close out of actions by required due date.
Develop hi level Project Schedule for wells/ project (jointly with Ops Geologist) and regularly communicate WDX requirements to Subsurface Team and other Stake Holders.
Organize (Improve the Plan) and DWoP (Drill Well on Paper) meetings as part of wells planning process. Participate in Pre-Spud.
Ensure wells cost tracking process is supported by Well Site DEs and accuracy maintained throughout well execution phase.
Ensure lessons learnt are captured throughout project and documented in FWR at end of project
Ensure Final Well Report is compiled and ready for sign off within two months of well suspension.
Organize Post Well Reviews following rig release.

Drilling Engineering:
Generate and Document the Casing Basis of Design for each well being planned.
Ensure correct standards (GDC and API) are specified for each item of critical equipment
Ensure that the company's Quality Assurance and Technical Integrity Team is involved in all critical orders
Develop SoR’s for any non-standard equipment requirements e.g. Rupture Disks, casing cross overs etc
Ensure necessary Policy Dispensations covering engineering issues are in place for well project
Provide drilling engineering support to rig site team throughout execution phase
Actively participate in pre-operational telecoms with rig / office prior to major operations
Attend regular drilling – subsurface team meetings.

Supply Chain Management:
Provide technical and commercial input into ITT’s and Tender Evaluations to ensure optimal delivery of OCTG, wellheads, and any other services included in this SPA role
Ensure equipment deliveries are being tracked against agreed schedule

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Offshore and floating drilling design, engineering and operations experience
Competent in the use of drilling engineering software used in the design and engineering of wells
Experience of analysing problems and identifying practical solutions
Able to liaise effectively and constructively with other technical functions and with contract service company personnel
Excellent communication/presentation skills
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and communicate at all levels and across locations
Dynamic, motivated and resourceful style, a self-starter with a hard working approach
Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
A strong desire to deliver technical excellence commensurate with business needs
At least 10 years well engineering experience preferably with an operator of which 5 will have been directly related to well design, planning and execution
Direct experience in the Gulf of Mexico
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
