The Company:
A large oil and gas operator

The Role:
•Generates conceptual engineering and detailed well design packages.
•Prepares high quality detailed drilling programmes and operational instructions.
•Prepares technical specifications for drilling materials procurement and services contracting. Develops bid evaluation methodologies, performs technical assessments, documents and presents conclusions.
•Manages allocated service contracts to ensure that drilling services are provided in accordance with the technical and quality specifications.
•Generates reliable, detailed well cost estimates and prepares AFEs.
•Creates suitable processes for tracking, control, reconciliation and reporting of all well expenditures.
•Collates multi-disciplinary input to develop high quality, accurate permit applications (APD).
•Liaises with BLM staff and inspectors to obtain program change approvals, if required.
•Uses all available drilling reports and data to analyse operational performance, identify improvement opportunities and propose new practices.
•Conducts operational risk assessments – identifies safety and operational risks, appropriate control and mitigation measures.
•Supports the development of suitable emergency response and readiness plans.
•Provides technical advice to asset staff in relation to the non-operated shale gas interest, as required.
•Openly shares knowledge with wellsite staff and junior engineers.
•Exhibits exemplary HSSE behaviours at all times. Is a strong contributor to building an effective safety culture in the field.
•Maintains a constant focus on effective delivery of the wells, maximising the value created and facilitating continuous operational improvement.
•Takes initiative to develop effective working relationships and successful collaborations with the associated technical and support discipline groups.

Knowledge of the following: well barrier concepts and illustrative diagrams; multi-stage value capital allocation/value assurance models; relevant API Standards, Specifications, Recommended Practices; industry regulations, including relevant environmental protection legislations; well permitting requirements – BLM/Federal and private lands
•Role is primarily office based, focused on building an operating capability and preparing for an efficient start to well operations. Some travel to the wellsites to support field supervision on critical activities will be required, for extended periods if necessary.
•Position reports to the Drilling Manager and has no direct reports. Peers are planned to be other drilling engineers as the exploration projects expand.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
•Eight years of well engineering and operational experience including specification of drilling rigs, contract preparation, acceptance inspection and operational management; direct experience with an involvement in drilling deep, horizontal wells in over-pressured onshore basins (15,000 – 20,000 ft. MD) as an engineer (field supervisor preferred)
•Experience working with mandatory functional design and operational standards
•Valid Well Control Certification

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
•Proficiency with industry standard well design software (Landmark); including StressCheck (WellCat),WellPlan, Compass, WellView, etc. as well as office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
•Some knowledge of hydraulic fracturing operational practices, well clean-out, flow testing and servicing activities (coiled tubing, snubbing units, slickline etc.) would be considered an advantage.
•Good understanding of subsurface uncertainty and data acquisition work in exploration wells
•Demonstrable skills in Drilling risk assessment and management, Drillstring design, tubular inspection standards, Directional drilling and surveying theory and practices, Drilling hydraulics, Selection and maintenance of drilling fluids systems, Casing specifications and running, Design and execution of cementation plans.
