The Company:
Our client is a large oil and gas company looking for a 12+ months contract Drilling Safety & Health Specialist based in Houston, Texas.

The Role:
Job Summary:
The Drilling Safety & Health Specialist, as part of the Drilling Safety, Security, Health and Environment group, is responsible for supporting the Global Drilling Organization regarding safety & health issues. The Specialist serves as a contact for safety and health issues related to rig-based and office-based activities and responds to requests and questions from the global drill teams. This position assists the Drilling SSH&E department as required with special initiatives, seminars, projects and day-to-day support of ongoing global drilling operations.

Primary Job Functions:
• Support global drilling organization regarding safety and health issues whether field or office-based
• Provide primary safety & health support role for specific drill teams
• Maintain safety performance records of specific drill teams and rigs consistent with company safety recordkeeping standards
• Actively support and participate in the company safety and health management system
• Assure compliance with operations integrity management standards and requirements
• Develop and maintain key performance indicators and metrics for supported operations
• Prepare presentations for senior drilling leadership in support of global drilling initiatives
• Provide corporate recordkeeping guidance to Drill Teams in accordance with Incident, Injury and Hazard Loss Guide (IIHL)
• Identify industry tools and/or “Best Practices” for Global Drilling implementation
• Participate in various Upstream Safety and Health network groups
• Plan and facilitate Drilling’s Operations Safety Leadership and Global Drilling Contractor seminars

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Education Level/Degree: Minimum B.S. degree in Occupational Safety & Health preferred
Experience:
• 5-10 years in Oil & Gas occupational safety & health
• Highly developed communication skills
• Experience in identifying trends to develop programs and/or initiatives to promote an injury free work environment

Job Requirements:
•Broad knowledge of:
-Drilling operations and processes
-Safety rules and regulations
-O&G Industry practices, processes, and expectations with respect to drilling operations, safety, health and operations integrity
• Good organizational and strong technical judgment skills
• Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to research and communicate general industry standards such as OSHA’s General Industry regulations, OSHA recordkeeping standard, API RP, NIOSH etc.
• Exceptional skills in MS Office suite of software programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
• Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to t

• Oil & Gas Industry / Drilling occupational safety and health-related experience
• Strong analytical skills
• Passion for Safety
• Ability to articulate general industry regulations such as OSHA recordkeeping standards, NIOSH, APR RP, etc.
• Strong networking skills in order to build and maintain a solid working relationship with Drill Teams, as well as relationships external to Drilling
• Ability to travel to remote sites
