The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their ongoing oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
Drilling Supervisor Roles & Responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning and development of all resource & geotechnical drilling programs and scope to effectively and efficiently utilize processes and meet agreed targets.
• Review performance and expenditure in correlation to plans, analyze trends and propose controls & improvement measures.
• Ensure all permits, licenses, documents and legal formalities are completed, valid and approved. Approve statutory well submissions including spud and abandonment notices to ensure they are reported and recorded as required.
• Monitor Health, Security, Safety, Environment (HSSE) and Operational performance indicators to manage compliance, controls, improvement and mitigation measures.
• Encourage practical HSSE, Technical, Operations and Compliance performance and reward successes
• Ensure that Operational & HSSE policies, procedures & practices are adhered to at all times.
• Ensure overall standards are maintained at the highest level.
• Manage amendments to agreed drilling program, ensuring that well objectives remain in check and implement Management of Change where required.
• Plan and develop revisions or enhancements utilizing expertise & experience to support the Team when troubleshooting technical & operational issues.
• Prepare workforce & manpower plan, organization chart, role descriptions and competency frameworks.
Assist in the recruitment of personnel; ensure adequate induction, orientation & compliance training is met utilizing Supervisor Evaluation format.
Manage team competence and career development; provide coaching & mentoring to personnel.
• Manage Contracts, Procurement and Logistics.
Assist in the preparation and manage annual drilling contracting plan.
Ensure contracts are in place & executed in a timely manner, contracted personnel are competent & materials meet required standards.
• Monitor contractor performance and provide feedback and suggestion regarding continuous improvement and efficiencies.
• Liaise with drilling and service contractors to ensure quality of service.
• Monitor support services for rig operations & ensure that all are provided & maintained in a timely manner.
• Manage Discipline, Team Performance and Excellence ensuring the application of departmental Vision, Mission, Values and Performance metrics are maintained. Track progress utilizing Leading Indicators vs. Benchmarked Man Hours.
• Review and approve the introduction and testing of new tools and techniques.
• Manage Emergency Response Plans and Incident Scene Command Systems are practiced and regular drills are performed as per the Operational Safety Plan (OSP).
• Assist in Incident-Accident-Spill Investigations. Review and approve interim and follow up action items pertaining to situation analysis and root cause.
• Manage the planning and execution of drilling projects, the development of oil and gas fields.
• Manage the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
• Work with the Drilling Contractor to ensure all rig and sub-contractors equipment availability targets are maintained and adhered to as close as possible.
• Ensure production reports and performance summaries are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with all Corporate, Client and Legislative requirements is maintained and reviewed as new applications are implemented.
• Provide technical support for drilling operations.
• Ensure safety is recognized by all crew as a core value and is first priority that “No Hurts” and “NO Spills” are maintained.
• Manage drilling operations in order to maximize return on exploration/observation expenditure.
• Manage recruitment and performance of all drilling and associated personnel.
• Participate and recommend selection of contractors and service companies and ensure budgetary requirements are maintained and reviewed accordingly.
• Implement safety and environmental policies, procedures and processes.
• Encourage communication, consistency or continuous improvement.
• Responsible for planning and operational input as well as execution for drilling development.
• Leads and provides detailed analysis regarding Risk Assessments.
• Assist in preparing detailed and accurate drilling cost and time estimates; directly correlated to Safety, Quality, Cost and Schedule.
• Works closely with all Contract Owners to develop the optimum drilling plan for assigned projects.
• Works closely with Completion Engineers to develop the optimum completion strategy for assigned projects for Aspen.
• Responsible for ensuring HSSE programs (including green hand mentorship programs) are adhered to and actively demonstrate leadership in motivating and supporting HSSE in subcontractor’s operations. Promotes AFP safety culture with a clear vision of “No Hurts!” and “No Spills!” by maximizing time spent in the field managing drilling subcontractor’s in the work region of responsibility.
• Along with HSSE, Morgan’s construction/site management and Subcontractor frontline supervision, reviews and authorizes rig move dates and times as per agreement and rig move criteria.
• Attests drilling subcontractor to ensure compliance to pre-approved and practiced drilling procedures.
• Verify accuracy of time sheets and approvals through ESES.
• Investigate operational drilling related problems to determine the problematic root cause and in consultation with the Drilling Subcontractor recommend a solution to the Drilling Manager or designate to ensure repeat occurrences are mitigated or eliminated.
• Participates in crew handover meetings onsite (rotating from rig to rig each day) to promote effective handover and communication of key HSSE and other concerns in a timely manner.
• Plan with HSSE, Construction site management and the Drilling subcontractor to ensure pre-inspections are conducted and advise on suitability of access and drilling leases. Actual acceptance of drilling leases to be made by drilling subcontractor working on the lease.
• Helps ensure safe and efficient rig movement to minimize impact on drilling subcontractor from influences out of drilling subcontractor’s direct control.
• Performs daily drilling lease/operations HSSE walk-around and ensures any potential problem is rectified accordingly.
• Review drilling subcontractor plans to verify that spares, consumables and overall drilling resources are available and readily accessible.
• Interfaces with key personnel working in other areas of the project to ensure that issues and concerns are communicated to the rigs in specific areas of responsibility.
• Identify critical path issues that could negatively impact drilling operations and helps ensure they are resolved before they become problematic.
• Support the drilling subcontractor to ensure the Team is successful in meeting performance expectations (Safety, Quality, Cost and Schedule).
• Ensures that abandonment are completed as per regulatory requirements.
• Actively mentor and coach individuals to promote the AFP culture across all teams.
• Deliver a high quality “Right the First Time” approach to all activities and strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of the business.
• Client/Customer interaction including providing appropriate input to business development activities.
• Management and development of programs for drilling execution.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience.
• A drilling background.
• GET ,GIT, or some sort of Geology degree.
• Geology training or additional courses is a benefit.
