The Role:
Purpose of Role:
Maintain HSE across the business the provision and guidance on all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures in line with current and emerging legislation and Approved Codes of Practice. Advise all personnel on safe methods of working and compliance with Company procedures. To maintain the production team’s awareness of the potential for unplanned losses of people, time, reputation and equipment. Where unplanned losses occur, advise and assist in mitigating their effect.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
o Support the HSE Manager in implementing HSE initiatives.
o Champion the environmental agenda throughout the company.
o Advise management on compliance with company HSE policy, the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Environmental Protection Act 1990, European HSE regulations and all other relevant HSE legislation.
o Advise management on the requirements of future Health, Safety and Environmental legislation as they affect or are likely to affect the company's business.
o Ensure the guidelines of ISO14001 and ISO18001 are adhered to at all times and the relevant systems and practices are in place to uphold certification.
o Maintain management system documentation and procedures in relation to HSE and ensure control of documents to quality management procedures.
o Conduct regular workplace HSE inspections with management, customers and representatives of the workforce.
o Undertake internal audits in order to identify areas requiring improvement within the HSE management system, and actioning findings.
o Carry out, and assist others with, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
o Act as a liaison between the Environmental Agency, Health & Safety Executive, Local Council, external auditors and other agencies and regulators involved in the protection of the environment and the upkeep of the yard’s management systems.
o Attend internal and external HSE meetings to represent the company's interests in environmental matters.
o Monitor shipyard activities such as hull cleaning, blasting operations, painting, tank cleaning, insulation, hot work and other activities that are likely to have an impact on the environment to ensure they are taking place in compliance with HSE legislation and advising management of any further control measures to be taken to ensure the company fulfils obligations from its HSE policy.
o Sample the arising/effluent from activities such as hull cleaning, blasting operations, painting, tank cleaning, insulation work, etc and have these analysed in order to determine contamination levels and report the findings.
o Ensure that all company personnel, sub-contractors, customer representatives and visitors receive HSE induction training.
o Deliver other HSE relevant training to members of the workforce as required.
o At the request of the HSE Manager, investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, producing a report and recommending actions to be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Qualification and Experience
NEBOSH Certificate
Environmental Management qualification
Internal auditor skills
Experience of working within a HSE function
Knowledge of best practice within HSE
