Educational Background / Qualifications:
Must have an Engineering Degree in the related discipline. Must have an in depth understanding of International Codes and Standards such as ANSI, ASME, BS, ASTM, API, GOST, SNIP etc. related to the discipline required. In addition Instrument & Controls Engineers must be familiar with the following, IEC, ISA, IP and NFPA.
Provide discipline design services as part of a team providing engineering, drafting and design services to support Capital Construction Program. This includes responsibility for work on a wide variety of facilities including:
The Facilities Management Project Group (FMPG) Project Team provides project engineering, drafting, and design services to support capital construction program. This includes responsibility for work on a wide variety of facilities, including:
Essential Position Functions:
The FMPG Instrument / Electrical Designer works with a broad scope of responsibilities in Instrument and Electrical design on multiple, concurrent, small capital projects (typically $1MM – 15MM). Assignments may vary from small project installations to major turnarounds projects to new facility construction. These projects may include elements of foundation design, structural steelwork design, building layouts and plot plans. The FMPG Instrument / Electrical Designer shall be accountable for the quality of all aspects of a project design for which he or she has responsibility, from the beginning of CPDEP Phase through Phase 5. Specific Work Responsibilities include the management of the following activities to completion:
Liaise with other Discipline Designers, Discipline Engineers and Project Engineers to produce quality designs.
Safety-in-Design (SID) design guidelines.
Fully conversant with AutoCAD. Possess a working knowledge of Microstation.
Fully conversant with Micro-soft windows and a working knowledge of Excel, Word, and all other Window packages.
Work well within a group and team comprising of varying nationalities.
High level of English skills written and verbal are required.
Provide support and advice to external engineering contractors. Coordination and review of off-site discipline engineering work performed by engineering service contractors.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer must show experience and maturity in working within the Project Team to accomplish all the Specific Work Responsibilities listed herein in a timely manner, and in working with all the groups and organizations listed above.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer shall keep abreast of current developments within Instrument and Electrical industry standards and practices, and deploy these together with any other organization procedures to assure best in class performance.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer’s assignments are outlined in terms of specific objectives. He generally proceeds on own initiative and judgment, receiving general supervision with infrequent supplementary instructions.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer’s completed work is reviewed in detail, and adherence to established processes and procedures is expected as the norm for all work.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer shall have effective listening skills and insures understanding of other’s messages. He understands and can articulate customer and supplier requirements. He is able to understand the varied perspectives of all individuals involved (both
internal and external contacts), and is able to moderate his own behavior to enhance interactions between all the parties. He makes a positive contribution as a team member.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer shall promote the use of Value Improving Practices, Best Practices and CPDEP Principles to enhance and measure performance against the industry’s best practices. He understands and applies metrics to improve work processes.
The Instrument / Electrical Designer shall promote all the intents of the Way in all project work, and demonstrate safety awareness in project work and his own conduct
Special Skills / Requirements:
Instrument & Controls: Must have understanding of typical process plant engineering deliverables such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, isometrics, instrument loop diagrams, electrical single line drawings etc. Must have good communication skills and be able to function in a multicultural environment
An Engineering qualification from an accredited university or college.
PLSC Certification, plus any specific certifications required during the course of project work
knowledge of English is essential.
