The Company:
Our Client’s engineering division, has been a leader in the design of drilling facilities for offshore platforms worldwide for over 30 years. The company’s 700-strong workforce provides a range of engineering services from pre-project and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through detail design, construction support, hook-up and commissioning.

The Role:
Purpose of job:
Creation and development of engineering solutions for allocated jobs/projects.

Area(s) of responsibility:
-Technical integrity of engineering within own area of responsibility.
- Delivery to schedule
- Delivery to budget

Supervises:
May supervise other Engineers for particular jobs / projects.

Key tasks:
- Knowledge of and compliance with clients management systems.
- Knowledge of and compliance with client industry and international specifications and standards
- Supervision of discipline Engineers under own control and for the technical content and quality of work produced by these discipline personnel.
- Direction of discipline designers allocated to own area of responsibility and frequent liaison to ensure co-ordination.
- Production of cost effective engineering solutions that are fit for purpose safe, add value to both the client. Motivation of discipline personnel allocated to own area of responsibility to do similarly.
- Originating engineering documentation for allocated work scopes e.g. calculations design reports and specifications and checking similar documentation created by others.
- Ensuring operational and maintenance issues are addressed in the design. Seeking input from operations and maintenance personnel and if beneficial carrying out presentations to site personnel regarding changes to their installation.
- Surveys both onshore and offshore to determine information to allow execution of work scopes.
- Rising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services as directed by the lead discipline engineer.
- Execution of work within man hour budget and time schedule.
- Early identification to the lead design engineer of areas of concern during the course of any project or study with necessary corrective action identified.
- Checking engineering content of design deliverables for allocated workspaces e.g. drawings bills of material.
- Review of supplier/vendor documents.
- Communication where appropriate with engineers of other disciplines to ensure design integrity and consistency.
- Technical input to procurement activities and raising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services.
- Identification of increase or reduction in scope of work and advising the Lead Discipline Engineer accordingly.
- Following discipline procedures for document control and use and retention of check prints/idc comments prints as directed by the lead discipline engineer.
- Representation of client and suppliers / vendors in a professional manner.
- Assistance to the lead discipline engineer as directed.

Safety
Use of safe approach in design and working practices, following the objectives of the office and project health and safety environmental plans. Encouragement of attention to safety in personnel allocated to own area of responsibility.

Financial
- Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the client relationship and how these can be influenced buy initiate designs and fit for purpose solutions.

Business Development
- Development of good working relationship with client and site personnel.
- Use of opportunities at meetings with client’s vendors etc. To learn of additional work which clients could undertake and to promote clients capabilities.
- During surveys and site visits communication with operations and maintenance personnel to determine any opportunities where client could provide and engineering solution to existing problems or for improving the existing practice.

Departmental development
- Liaison with the lead discipline engineer to identify areas for development and to implement improvements in working practices.

Systems and processes
- Provisions of information as required by client systems.

People
- Assistance with development of graduate discipline engineers and trainee discipline designers.

Quality
- Adherence to the clients bms
- Keeping up to date with technical developments client national and international standards and legislative requirements to the related role.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Must have previous drilling facilities experience knowledge
Previous experience of supplier design review for a minor equiptment packages
Degree qualified
Computer literate
Must be highly organised
