The Company:
With interests in over 20 UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) fields, my Client has one of the most significant exploration and production businesses in the offshore waters of the UK.

The Role:
Position Summary
The Electrical Technician is part of the offshore maintenance team accountable for ensuring that the power generation and power distribution system is maintained and operated reliably. The Electrical Technician will ensure the availability and operational condition of the electrical equipment so that production targets can be achieved. The Electrical Technician will actively carry out front line maintenance of electrical equipment under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead.

The jobholder will also ensure production activities comply with BG Advance and UK Upstream standards.

• Direct report to Maintenance Team Lead.
• Functional report Field Onshore Electrical Engineer.
• The position works closely with the core crew of discipline technicians.

Key Accountabilities
HSSE
• Contribute to a culture of continuous HSSE performance improvement.
• Ensure electrical maintenance activities on the Platform fully comply with BG practices including safe systems of work.
• Act as Permit signatory under ISSOW (as outlined in BG operating procedures).
• Ensure all work activities are carried out following safety arrangements and as SAEP and that processes are being operated in line with industry and internal best practice.
• Ensure that the Maintenance Team Leader is advised when any Safety Critical Equipment has failed to meet the performance standard.
• Actively contribute to the maintenance team achieving outstanding performance in meeting BG Group targets of HSSE and efficiency.

Electrical Operations
• Ensure electrical equipment is maintained to optimise equipment and plant availability on the Platform ensuring facility achieves the required integrity and efficiency standards to reach targeted hydrocarbon production targets safely.
• Carry out routine switching operations on HV and LV switchgear.
• Carry out electrical procedures required for the issue of Electrical Permits to Work, Isolation Certificates, Sanction to Test and Limitation of Access.
• Complete routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance and installation of electrical equipment.
• Identify and report any plant operating outside normal parameters of malfunction and carry out the necessary action to correct under the direction of Maintenance Team Lead as necessary.
• Where defects are identified ensue a work order is raised in EMPAC.
• Gather and collect data for the process and utility equipment, identify actions to be taken to minimise equipment and machinery failure.
• Co-ordinate with operations personnel for start-up and shut down of electrical equipment.
• Ensure all electrical equipment located in hazardous areas have correct ‘ex’ rating for the correct hazardous zone and installed and maintained in accordance with current legislation.
• Investigate and report on electrical equipment faults / mal operation.
• Carry out isolation, de-isolation of low and high voltage electrical equipment.
• Contribute to identifying improvements to planned maintenance routines.
• Complete post start-up/operating checks to ensure normal operating conditions.
• Be aware and monitor work being carried out in area for which you have designated authority.
• Completion of comprehensive shift handovers.

Financials
• Ensure cost effective Maintenance is carried out.

Processes and systems
• Completion all relevant records, maintenance records, CMMS in order to generate required reports.
• Participate in System ownership.

People and Organisation
• Demonstrate an active performance mindset to others within maintenance team to focus behaviours on safe working and optimising production levels against key targets under the direction of the Maintenance Team Lead.
• Participate in training opportunities for offshore Electrical Technician job requirements.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience
• Adept at working in an offshore team structure.
• Strong electrical maintenance experience in an upstream oil and gas installation operating a high voltage power generation and distribution system.

Knowledge
• Apprenticeship in electrical engineering and obtained minimum City and Guilds, Level 3 NVQ, HNC certificate or equivalent.
• Holder of current COMPEX certificate.
• Working understanding of UK offshore legislation especially Electrical related areas.
• Mandatory safety, medical regulatory regulations for travel working offshore UKCS.
• Fully conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD’s, P&ID’s, Data Sheets and Cause & Effect charts.
• Knowledge of gas turbine generator operation and control.
• Good working knowledge of computer based logging equipment and use of pc’s for reporting.

Skills
• Proven capability in installation, operation and maintenance of Offshore HV and LV Electrical equipment.
