The Role:
This role is as an electronics system engineer within the Energy Management Electronics team.

Responsible for providing all or part of the 12V energy management system and calibration where required. The delivery of the ‘system’ for the role will be the delivery, validation and release of the 12V system components. Cross functional working will be expected across the business, engineering, electrical engineering and the Energy Management team.

To provide the expert theoretical and practical capability to be aware of and to understand the latest energy management systems design.
To define the electrical system platform to meet the customer requirements and the Project targets.
To take responsibility for the development and maintenance of the energy management system and its components.

Reports to the Functional Manager of Energy Management, Networks, Diagnostics and Gateway team within the Integration team organisation within Electrical Engineering.

Collaborates closely with other Functional Managers/Engineers/Technicians within the electrical engineering department to ensure that the energy management system meets all of the whole vehicle requirements, particularly those who are dependent upon the energy management system to operate their components/systems to meet functional engineering targets and project targets.


• Gather requisite information on systems from sources such as Group companies or suppliers.
• Ensure that proposals can be accommodated within existing electrical strategies and architectures or if not identify what needs to be modified to accommodate within existing or developing vehicle architecture/platforms. As part of this define system electrical architecture, functionality and connectivity requirements
• Responsible for packaging of all components of the 12V energy management system including, but not restricted to 12V batteries, 12V Battery Diagnostic Module, Energy Management Module, power relay and having an input into the package of battery cables, connections and ancillary parts where required e.g. brackets, fixings & ESD covers
• Understanding of the required deliverables at each of the vehicle project milestones in the context of the Energy Management system.
• Manage component and system suppliers in order to meet the cost, time and quality targets where required.
• Devise methods of simulation to support development of design concepts and validation
• Conduct system and/or component FMEA's internally as well as facilitating supplier FMEA’s. Taking part of DFMEA decision reviews.
• Support simulator and prototype vehicle builds and feedback learning into the design of the energy management system where appropriate.
• Support of manufacturing engineering, production planning, logistics and quality departments.
• Test specification creation and maturation applicable to the new/existing functions of the Energy Management System. SW test plan creation meeting the vehicle project milestones.
• Timely resolution and management of any issues found with the system during design, test, prototype and production builds up to SOP +90, to ensure that these are closed down as robustly and efficiently as possible
• Expected to present status of the system against vehicle project deliverables to Senior management as required, including issues found and the implementation of the resolution.
• Manage component change, including feasibility, cost and timing evaluations.
• Investigate in-field issues, identification of root causes and introduction of remedial actions
• Expedite Engineering Sign-Off (ESO) for all components


• A strong engineering grounding and an ability to understand and communicate electronic engineering issues
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Good project management, organisation and personal interface skills.
• Dynamic and proactive self-starter able to work with minimum of supervision.
• German language skills would be advantageous
• Good communication skills
• Self-motivated
• Flexible (able to work extra hours and to travel abroad as and when required)

Essential Skills / Qualifications:

• Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
• Good knowledge and experience of 12V vehicle charging and battery systems
• Able to work with industry standard third party diagnostic tools. E.g. CANoe, CANape,CANalyzer
• Knowledge of vehicle communications networks and diagnostic protocols (CAN, LIN, UDS)
• Demonstrated experience working for an automotive manufacturer or relevant supplier in a product development role
• Knowledge and experience of latest vehicle electronic systems
• Conversant with electronic hardware and software design processes
• Familiarity with methods for specification and modeling such as Matlab Simulink, Stateflow
• National Instruments Diadem software use for analysis and reporting of data, experience/knowledge of Diadem script writing would be a distinct advantage.
