The Company:
Is a leading Automotive manufacturer and is currently experiencing an upturn in production with demand increasing globally.

The Role:
The engine development department is concerned with the performance, durability and reliability improvements of the engines produced by the company. New or facelifted models often require performance improvements (in terms of output or refinement) and these have to be developed, validated and released for production. In addition, new concepts for existing engines are developed and evaluated in order to maintain legal requirements or exceed customer expectations.

The position is within the Powertrain function of the Engineering Department. The engineer reports directly to the Senior Engineer for Engine Development who in turn reports to the Functional Manager for the Engine Team.

• Create Product Validation Reports (PVRs) for the evaluation / validation of engines / components to enable release for production
• Organise validation / durability tests as per the PVR (testbed and vehicle)
• Asses and report on the findings of tests
• Conduct tests on engines or components to help develop mechanisms or production processes.
• Liaise with component suppliers as necessary to resolve development or current production problems.
• Create new ideas for development of the current engine(s) through experienced, technical reasoning
• Assist in the development of junior team members to further their development skills
• Lead problem resolution tasks and acquire resources from other teams as necessary
• Take responsibility for developing components / systems from concept to production

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering (with automotive bias)
Extensive experience in base engine development / design role, either in OEM or motorsport environment
Good understanding of mechanical engine mechanisms in the following areas:
• Valvetrain (preferably pushrod valvetrain)
• Turbocharging and supercharging
• Cranktrain design and analysis
• Idle stability and control
• Lubrication
• Effect of stresses and loads on materials and their response to these loads
Good practical engine skills - preferably some engine building experience, including measurement and machining experience
Keen interest in engines, their application and their development
Must be able to show proven track record in leading multi-functional teams for problem resolution
