The Role:
1 MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To carry out controlled engine development testing within the engineering engine test facility. This is achieved by installing and removing engines from the test rigs. Running manual and automatic engine tests to agreed processes and to defined standards. Minimize test downtime by performing basic fault finding and diagnostic work. Carry out rectification, remedial and enhancement work to test specimens in conjunction with Test engineer and facility customers. Ensure the test are performed and are prepared to the highest standard within tight time frames. Perform maintenance tasks on the facility equipment to defined processes as requested. Work flexibly to support the successful achievement of facility objectives. Provide additional support to the emissions test facility as required.


2 POSITION IN ORGANISATION

The Engine Test Facility is part of the Engine Engineering Dept. under the department Functional Manager. The Fitter/Tester – Engine Test Facility reports directly to the Senior Engineer – Test Centre.
The Fitter / Testers work is allocated by the Test Engineer – Engine Test Facilities and he works closely with the rest of the engine test team, who report to the same Senior Engineer.
The engineer also liaises with Internal Customers regarding specifics of test work or results.


3 SCOPE OF JOB

• Rigging and de-rigging of engines from test rigs
• Performing engine tests and maintaining records of test results
• Basic fitting work on test engines and components
• Facility maintenance tasks
• Participate in Continuous Improvement of facility and working practices


4 DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

The Fitter / Tester – engine test facility Performs engine test activities and maintenance activities as directed by Test Engineer and customer, but should question any aspects that are unclear. Any concerns regarding safety the appropriateness of any tasks requested should be highlighted to facility management team. It is expected that the Fitter Tester will participate actively in defining best practices and identifying opportunities for improvement. All Test Facility staff are expected to take responsibility for the cleanliness and tidiness of the area in which they are working.

5 QUALIFICATIONS

No Specific formal qualifications are required

6 EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 1 years engine build and fault diagnosis with a broad based engine knowledge
• Understanding of principles of engine testing and test equipment
• A working knowledge of computers



DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Engine Testing
a) Work in close liaison with the Test Engineer to ensure that tests are run in accordance with group standards or customer specific requirements, using agreed test report sheets to record results.
b) Work in close liaison with the Test Engineer to ensure that the customer agreed completion dates for engine tests are met using flexible work patterns and informing the Test Engineer when issues arise.
c) Prepare engines for test including instrumentation and rigging to the test bed to agreed specification from engineer and to timescales agreed with Test Engineer.
d) Strip and rebuild engines for fault diagnosis or for transfer of test components between test engines, and repair or replace faulty components.
e) Ensure that all equipment and services used for engine testing are maintained and calibrated, and that operation of all equipment and services required for a test are fully operational prior to the test.
f) Carry out rig test on components in accordance with test requests 75
2) Facility Maintenance
a) Perform facilities maintenance tasks in line with maintenance process 10
3) Quality, Health, Safety and Certification
a) Work in close liaison with the Facilities Engineer / Manager to ensure that all legislative Health and Safety, Global standards and business Key Goals are met.
b) Actively participate in continuous improvement activities 10
4) Emissions Testing
a) Provide fitting / testing support to the emissions test facility if requested 5
