The Role:
Main Purpose of the Role

To carry out controlled engine development testing within the engineering engine test facility. This is achieved by installing and removing engines from the test rigs. Set-up and operation of all test equipment and instrumentation within the facility. Using the equipment to perform manual and automated engine tests to agreed processes and to defined standards. Minimise test downtime by fault finding and diagnosing both engines and test equipment. Carry out rectification, remedial and enhancement work to test specimens in conjunction with Test engineer and facility customers. Ensure the tests are performed and are prepared to the highest standard and tight time frames. Perform maintenance tasks on the facility equipment to defined processes as requested. Work flexibly to support the successful achievement of facility objectives. Provide additional support to the emissions test facility as required.

Scope of the Role

- Rigging and de-rigging of engines from test rigs.
- Instrumentation of test specimens and set up of test equipment and controllers.
- Performing engine tests and maintaining records of test results.
- Maintenance servicing and fault diagnosis of engines and test equipment.
- Basic fitting work on test engines and components.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement of facility and working practices.
- Support reasonable requests for overseas and offsite travel, unless agreed exemption.

Qualifications and Experience

- Recognised apprenticeship qualification, City & Guilds mechanical/electrical engineering or ONC or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience engine build and fault diagnosis with a broad based engine knowledge.
- Understanding of principles of engine testing and test equipment.
- A good general computer literacy and experience of use.
- A knowledge of engine electrical and diagnostic systems.
