The Role:

The UZ 750 project will increase the Upper Zakum oilfield’s production to 750 kbpd. The Engineering Lead (EPC 1 scope) is responsible for management and direct supervision of the engineering design of the West Island initial production and water injection scope (6 months) followed by support of other engineering/procurement activities in Technip’s offices (e.g. Change Orders) (6+ months). The job includes: ensuring alignment with PT on project engineering needs, objectives, and requirements; ensuring that the EPC contractor's staffing processes and procedures are adequate to fulfill contract requirements; developing and executing administrative routines that align with the project's goals, objectives, and procedures.

Key requirements for this position include:

• Knowledge and experience with companies Capital Projects management System, global practices and specifications.
• Effective interface with worldwide company specialist resource including EMDC functions on engineering design, activities, and issues.
• Experience leading and supporting commissioning and start-up activities.


• Provide overall engineering leadership and expertise.
• Maintain close liaison with appropriate members of Project Team (PT) including: Safety, Project Services, Quality, Operations, and home office functional support).
• Gain alignment with the PT on project engineering needs, objectives, and requirements.
• Coordinate owner and PT design reviews to minimize disruption of the contractor's work.
• Arrange required review and appraisal by EMDC Function's technical specialists for critical portions of the work.
• Ensure quality and schedule for engineering deliverables.
• Ensure proper inter-departmental coordination with all engineering groups.
• Participate actively in the project's change management program.
• Capture and communicate engineering and design lessons learned for the project
• Steward the EPC contractor's activities with respect to engineering execution including:
• Ensuring that all affected parties are familiar with engineering execution plans, procedures, objectives, and overall job requirements.
• Ensuring that the contractor staffs the project with adequate numbers of qualified engineering personnel.
• Ensuring that the contractor employs the appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software.
• Ensuring that the contractor adheres to all appropriate specifications and standards.
• Ensuring that the contractor delivers all required engineering documentation, including those referred to in the job specifications.
• Reinforcing the requirement for the contractor to control the work, i.e. accurate and timely progress measurement and reporting.
• Advise the EPC contractor's engineering and design organization with respect to:

o Compliance with company policies for prevention of information brokering and compliance with business standards guidelines.
o Contractor's engineering and design procedures, processes, and deliverables.
o Contractor's engineering staffing, including staffing plans, and personnel suitability and adequacy.
o Resolution of contractor's engineering claims, if any.


• Broad and extensive knowledge of industry:

o Design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
o Facilities design, procurement, construction, and operations.
o Engineering administration.
o Company practices, processes, and expectations with respect to project engineering.

• Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline
• 15+ years of closely related professional experience, 5+ years of which should be at the project engineering / engineering management leadership level with overall responsibility for engineering execution.
• Strong organizational, management, and technical judgment skills.
• Ability to lead, guide and manage the engineering team.
• Ability to coordinate and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, etc.
• Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communications.
• Location: Business trips and then resident in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
