The Company:
Our client is one of the world's leading specialty chemicals companies.

The Role:
Our client is looking for an experienced Chemical Engineer to perform the role of Engineering Manager on a COMAH regulated manufacturing site.

Duration expected to be minimum of 12 months, potentially longer.
Based - West Cumbria

To manage the team of qualified tradesmen to enable them to deliver a high standard of engineering care to the site, ensuring that they are adequately trained and developed.
To provide engineering services to the site by means of selection and negotiation of appropriate external contractors.
To ensure that all deviations to normal operations are appropriately investigated, recorded and dealt with.
Provide a troubleshooting resource to the site, with the engineering team, to ensure engineering problems are quickly and effectively resolved.
Provide project management for small projects and engage the services of appropriate external contractors for larger ones.
Effectively manage and control the costs of the Engineering Department and provide analysis of these costs for senior management.
Provide the necessary stocks of critical spares and appropriate engineering materials to adequately maintain the site.
Development of site engineering codes and standards to meet current best practice.
Provide a report of engineering activities at the end of every month to the Operations Manager, including activities for the previous month as well as scheduled activities for the upcoming month.

To operate in a safe and responsible manner at all times compliant with the company EHSQ requirements, requirements within COMAH and be aware of and understand the Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP).
To inspect before use, and use correctly, the plant equipment, machinery and PPE provided, to take corrective action within own competency level, and report to line management if defects in such equipment are found.
To report all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses to line manager and complete the necessary paperwork.
To ensure that all responsibilities shown in the COMAH Safety Report are undertaken.
To ensure that the appropriate non-conformance documentation is raised for any non-standard issue.
To ensure that work is carried out in accordance with safe working practices in line with internal procedures and work instructions.

In addition to the duties / responsibilities listed, the jobholder is required to perform other duties assigned by the Manager from time to time, including:-
Act as an effective member of the site management team to support the overall management of the site.
Provides mentoring and professional guidance to engineering staff including the generation of performance reviews and assessments.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree.
Member of professional body (IChemE / IMechE).
Basic Project Management experience.
Familiarity of PSSR.
Strong communication and relationship building skills.
Experience with the development and management of preventative maintenance programmes.
Ability to ensure that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements.
Experience of undertaking process hazardous studies (such as HAZID / HAZOP).
Understanding of the implications of DSEAR.
Experience of budgetary responsibility and control (both revenue / capital).
Knowledge of CDM requirements.
