Position Required Environmental Compliance Specialist
Reports to (Position) HES Team Lead




Job Description/Major Duties (general job functions, responsibilities, day-to-day tasks & activities)
The Environmental Compliance Specialist will work in advising field management and personnel in all aspects related to environment compliance. In addition, the Environmental Compliance Specialist will coordinate and audit the field implementation of the health, environment, safety & management System (HESMS). Also, part of the responsibilities is to maintain records and reporting systems including key performance indicators (KPIs) to permit the analysis and evaluation of environment monitoring data.
The Environmental Compliance Specialist responsibilities include but not limited to:
A. Health, Environment and Safety Management System
• Perform all the tasks listed in the job Performance standards for middle managers/supervisors of the HES Management Reference Manual as related to HES duties. Coordinate and advise in the implementation of HES Management System.

B. Environment Management
• Ensure compliance with the environmental regulations of Oman and client policy, with particular Emphasis on the handling of all waste including maintaining the waste management tracking system.
• Establish and monitor recycling programs.
• Provide environmental monitoring and auditing during construction of pipelines, facilities, and well sites.
• Monitor bioremediation programs including data collection and report writing.
• Maintain air quality monitoring and meteorological instrumentation, data collection and reporting.
• Support wildlife monitoring and reporting programs.
• Recommend chemical analytical techniques and develop sampling protocols.
• Perform water quality monitoring activities including measurements of groundwater in water wells.
• Advise management on cost effective solutions to environmental problems and innovations in environmental management techniques.
• Monitor and report all environmental costs related to our operations
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive environmental records system.
• Participate in environmental assessments by management, the Ministries, OOGC, OPC etc.
• Perform internal environmental audits and inspections of our operations and report results, findings and recommendation to management.
• Liaise with field personnel to promote environmental awareness.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Requirements (Education required, background, experience, skills)
• Bachelor Degree with minimum 3 years experience in an environmental profession (OR) college diploma with minimum 7 years experience in environmental profession.
• Academic certificate in environmental science is preferred
• A thorough knowledge of Omani and international HES standards and legislation.
• Must be able to analyze environmental problems as they relate to operations and produce cost effective solutions to those problems.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS is a plus.
• Good PC Skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
