The Role:
The Project and Technology Major Projects HSSE & SP Team provides the full range of HSSE & SP support to both Upstream and Downstream projects across the globe.
The Environmental & Social Performance Team for Europe, Middle East and Africa has some 5-10 staff between the offices in Aberdeen and Rijswijk. The team has in-house skills and tools for providing effective solutions, integrated across the project lifecycle, thus creating the enabling environment for successful project delivery. Its key objective is to support Major Projects achieve Top Quartile performance with exemplary Environmental / SP performance.
The portfolio of existing and future major projects ranges from facility upgrades, to subsea developments, to major brownfield and greenfield on- and off shore development projects. Current projects within the Europe, Middle East and Africa portfolio include major refinery upgrades, a new petrochemical complex, new production facilities, offshore floating production systems, major onshore developments and cutting edge Carbon Capture and Sequestration projects.
In support of the E&SP Team in Rijswijk, we are looking for an Environmental/Impact Assessment specialist who can strengthen the team for up to one year.
Responsibilities:

To ensure environmental, social, health and broader non-technical risk objectives are incorporated early in project development, and managed through the project life cycle. Preserve Shell’s license to operate.
- Ensuring environmental and social performance deliverables are fully covered in projects, by personal delivery or working through others;
- In the context of project development providing authoritative advice on specific issues relating to environmental protection and social performance;
- Ensuring environment and SP project deliverables are fully integrated with technical safety processes such that clients receive a seamless one-point service for all their HSSE-SP needs;
- Acting as an Impact Assessment subject matter expert; planning and managing impact assessments, and coordinating the activities of IA contractors including scoping, preparation of Terms of Reference, definition of environmental, social and community health baseline, identification and assessment of impacts, development and implementation of plans to mitigate negative impacts and enhance positive impacts, and, development of plans to monitor performance.
- Providing environmental and social input to risk and hazard identification processes and workshops;
- Facilitation of workshops and awareness programmes.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years Oil, Gas or Chemicals Business experience;
- A degree(s) or equivalent in any relevant and related technical, environmental or social discipline;
- Thorough understanding of HSSE&SP policy, principles and issues, and an understanding of how these relate to business and project development in the oil and gas industry;
- Clear understanding and experience of international and national approaches in the application of environmental, social and related standards, guidelines and expectations defined by formal regulatory environments and in relation to the demands of stakeholders and society;
- At least 4 years experience applying HSSE-SP directly into capital project developments and/or assets with a track record of ESH Issue and stakeholder management in project cycles;
- Five years+ experience in impact assessment for large scale industrial infrastructure. Awareness of IA requirements of international financing institutions.
- Proven project accountability.
