Our client is a leading Global Oil and Gas operating company.

The Role:
The Field Environmental Advisor is responsible for providing direct environmental support to operations, functional groups and projects (including functional, new development, and field managed projects). This is a North Slope based position, reporting to the North Slope Environmental Team Leader. The North Slope environmental team is part of the Alaska Regulatory Compliance and Environmental organization; there are additional Anchorage-based environmental resources, including subject matter experts (Compliance Authorities), environmental scientists and regulatory compliance specialists.

The role focuses on providing support and training to operations, functional groups and projects for waste management, air and water permit compliance, land use requirements, spill prevention, clean-up and reporting, and wildlife management. The Field Environmental Advisor works closely with field personnel to assure they understand their compliance obligations and requirements for environmentally sound operations. The advisor will interface frequently with field teams through training, compliance briefings, site visits and meetings. In addition the Field Environmental Advisor will conduct formal and informal assessments and inspections, participate in investigations and conduct inspections of field, facilities and project work in progress. This position offers guidance in the development and implementation of Alaska’s ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and the Operations Management System. This role will also help to identify and support various continuous improvement objectives around environmental management and compliance challenges.

This role includes liaison and supporting regulatory agencies on compliance matters and accompanying agency personnel during inspections. The Field Environmental Advisor will frequently interact with Anchorage-based personnel for regulatory interpretations, analysis, and permitting support.

Key Accountabilities
- Play a key role in identification of annual OMS gaps and improvement plans (this includes ISO 14001 aspects and objectives/targets).
- Work closely with operations, functional groups and projects to assure that individuals understand compliance obligations, and assist them by improving or creating operational controls and compliance tools.
- Provide support and guidance regarding regulatory compliance and conformance with Company standards, consulting with Compliance Authorities as needed.
- Periodically verify compliance task closure or spot check conformance with required environmental performance standards.
- Be a key environmental and compliance resource for site leadership team, Company employees, and contractors to deliver outstanding performance.
- Assist in maintenance and continual improvement of an environmental Compliance Management System.
- Review planned activities to identify risks and mitigation measures.
- Provide advice and training on procedures, best practices and environmentally sound operations.
- Establish and maintain open, proactive and responsible relationships with industry / community stakeholders and governmental agencies.
- Assist in incident investigation and corrective actions follow up.

Travel % required Yes - up to 50%, Rotational Position

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Essential Education
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related technical discipline.
4 to 7 years experience

Essential Experience and Job Requirements
A minimum of five years of overall experience as a degreed environmental professional, including:
- Experience working directly with field operations, support functions or projects
- Proven ability to integrate environmental best practices into operations and projects.
- Experience working within an Environmental Management System and/or operations management systems to drive continual improvement in environmental performance and compliance.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills including network-building, problem solving and the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated strong communication skills including listening, public speaking, and technical writing.
- Self-starter with bias for action and ability to enrol

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Desirable criteria & qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Experience in the oil industry, especially in Exploration and Production operations.
- Experience with environmental regulations, preferably State of Alaska regulations.
- Graduate degree in environmental science, engineering, or related technical discipline.
