The Company:
Refinery located in Whiting, IN for a major oil & gas operator. Contract is approximately 12 months (extendable).

The Role:
The Field Safety Specialist represents the Project Team Safety Department in several areas of the Refinery. In conjunction with the rest of the Field Safety Department, they are responsible with driving improvement in safety compliance for their area of responsibility and the Refinery as a whole including contactors and visitors. The position requires an individual who can work projects and issues from initiation through completion with limited oversight.

• Represent the Project Team Safety Department in the area of responsibility to address safety concerns and foster the growth of our safety culture.
• Promote an Incident and Injury Free Culture.
• Attend and host safety meetings as needed to support team and Refinery objectives.
• Assist Safety Department with the development and execution of Refinery-wide initiatives and objectives.
• Participate in and lead incident investigations to ensure root causes are identified and corrected in a timely manner.
• Assure compliance tasks and objectives are completed as needed.
• Share in responsibilities of providing Refinery Turnaround coverage.
• Conduct regular compliance audits in the Refinery for various Safety Department Programs and Share in responsibilities for representing the Safety Department for Project Hazard Reviews and other Pre-Job Meetings
• Skilled in writing Project HSE plans.
• Ability to work in teams and influence others without formal line authority
• Ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. Experience in working with outside stakeholders.
• Ability to provide direction to and coach others on Safety issues and opportunities
• Have effective communication, people skills and problem solving skills.
• Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, work at elevated heights and work in confined spaces.
• Pass a pulmonary function test and respiratory fit test.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• 2+ years of petrochemical safety experience in the Refinery
• 5+ years of health and safety experience in heavy Industry
• Knowledge and application of OSHA standards, safety audits, and incident investigations
• Individuals shall also possess the following certifications / competencies:
•Fall protection inspection
•Current First Aid and CPR Certification (Not mandatory but preferred)
•Rigging and hoisting safety
•Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required in Marsee Areas

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• An Associate Degree in Safety, Applied Science, or Engineering. ASP, CHST, CSP, credential preferred over formal degree.
In lieu of formal degree completion must have 5+ years in safety in the petrochemical (working refinery) or heavy industrial field. OSHA 500 / 501 Certification or equivalent (Not mandatory but preferred).
