The Company:
Our client is a leading provider of automation technologies and services to the biomedical and life sciences industry.

The Role:
To provide both on-site and remote engineering support for our client's automation products in the UK, Europe and USA as directed.

Key Job Accountabilities
- Act as first and second line support for our client's field installed base of automation products, including fault finding and rectification.
- Responsible for maintaining fault finding data, and feedback of product data to customers and internal groups
- Maintaining call status data in the Syteline call management database to ensure that customer information is up to date and accurate.
- Installation and commissioning of the client's product range as required.
- Conduct customer operator and maintenance training for products as required.
- Liaison with the Product Support Engineers, Customer Support Engineers and the Technical Support Engineer.
- To install product hardware and software upgrades to already installed customer equipment and obtain customer acceptance.

The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant experience working in a test or field service/support environment within high-tech engineering/manufacturing company – ideally on capital equipment or special purpose machines
- Experience of electrical and mechanical fault-finding at system and component level
- Understanding of automatic mechanisms and their associated electrical control systems
- Previous experience of operating on-call/call-out/immediate travel, both in and out of normal working hours.

- The jobholder could be expected to be on call out of normal office hours and at weekends.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Either HND or Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Formal training in hardware set-up and configuration (PLC and Windows/NT&XP operating environments).
- Field engineering experience would be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish sound relationships with team members and customers either face-to-face, phone or via e-mail
- Experience of configuring PCs and installing software packages
- Knowledge of PLC, Windows and NT&XP set-up procedures
- An understanding of mechanical/electrical drawings
- Proven problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively train and manage customers in the use of our products
- Computer literate and familiarity with MS Office

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- Calibration of control systems, e.g. temperature and/or volume
- Knowledge of robotics, motors, conveyor systems, electronic modules, optical, pneumatic and electromechanical assemblies.
- 16th or 17th Edition IEE Wiring Certificate qualified
- Knowledge of 'clean' applications eg GMP/Microelectronics/food processing.
